Bulldozing the years gone by
THIS week’s Memory Lane feature shines a spotlight on life in Rawtenstall in years gone by. Last week we took a look back at jubilee celebrations, a new market, drama rehearsals, a football team and a family ramble.
This week our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has shared with us another selection of photographs taken down the decades.
Now we have shots of a runaway bulldozer, a gardeners’ show, a road safety exhibition, a presentation for school pupils and a fundraising coffee morning.
Our first picture of the week (top left) was taken at Rawtenstall, Edgeside and District Gardeners’ Show at Whitewell Bottom.
Next (top right) is a snap of Jean Kiely and Norma Johnson, two Alder Grange School pupils, admiring an display at the road safety exhibition at Rawtenstall Library.
Below this (right), the picture shows examination certificates being presented to fifth year pupils at St Ambrose RC Secondary School in Rawtenstall. Next (bottom right), the shot was taken at Rawtenstall Townswomen’s Guild coffee morning and bring and buy sale in aid of the mayor’s charity fund.
Our final picture of the week (bottom left) shows a bulldozer in the river at the rear of Longholme Shed, Rawtenstall, after careering down the slope and across the relief road.
Can you spot yourself in any of these pictures or do you have any of your own to share? Please get in touch. Thanks to our nostalgia contributors.
