ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

THIS week we focus on the great success of our brand new summer short evening walks programme, which we called ‘Summer Strolls with Rossendale Ramblers’.

We have been blessed with lovely weather on each of the eight walks and also with very sociable people.

The walks were on the first and third Thursdays of May, June, July and August and attracted between 16 and 27 walkers, with an average of 21.

We had the occasional dog and the ages of the walkers ranged from nine to 80.

We planned the walks around local hostelries, including Haslingden Cricket Club, with the explicit aim of going into the venue afterwards for some social. While the walks themselves have been more than pleasant, the craic afterwards has been brilliant, with the number of people coming back to the pub increasing over time.

After the final walk, from Buffer Stops, 20 happy walkers sat outside in coolish weather, chatting away as though they had known each other for ever. There was a great deal of interest expressed in repeating and maybe expanding the programme next year, with some of our new friends even offering to lead some of the walks.

In addition, some of the evening short walkers will be joining us on our longer walks, including our Sunday six-mile walks.

Sincere thanks are due to Rossendale Free Press, as many of the walkers found out about the programme from the Club News page. We must also thank those who came on the walks for being so open and friendly, plus our leaders for their efforts and the various hostelries who welcomed us. Here’s to 2019!
