Coun Ann Kenyon

Mayor of Rossendale

-

THE past month began with attending the ‘Michael Davitt Golf Tournament Award Presentation’ at Rossendale Golf Club.

This was the first year the golf tournament had taken place and it had been a great success. It was an honour to present the winner with their award and I hope the tournament continues in years to come.

I also had the honour of opening the ‘Annual Jigsaw Festival’ in Ramsbottom this month which was a fantastic event to be a part of. There was a wonderful array of jigsaws and puzzles to see and I would recommend that people take a look if the event is held again next year.

I had a wonderful evening attending the opening ceremony of Rossendale’s 60s Festival at The Whitaker Museum in early September. The 60’s weekend is celebrated throughout Rossendale and it is a fantastic community event which gets better and better each year. The Whitaker hosted a brilliant opening event and I was extremely impressed with the school choir that joined the celebrations with their performance.

I was happy to see that the Royal British Legion Family Fun Day was re-arranged this month. It was, as I predicted, a great event that raised much needed funds for the Royal British Legion.

Again, I would like to express my thanks to all the people that attended another of my Mayor’s Charity Events. This month we held an afternoon tea at St James the Less Church, there was a wide variety of sandwiches and cakes on offer, and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody that joined us. The afternoon tea event raised a staggering £330 for the Mayor’s Charity Fund, but this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all the volunteers that made the food and helped on the day, so I would like to extend my thanks to those people also.

Our next fundraising event will be a Fashion Show to be held at Haslingden Cricket Club on Thursday, November 22, further details will be published soon on the Mayoral page of the Rossendale Borough Council website.

The last event I attended this past month was the ‘Danswork Annual Awards Show’ at The Riverside. Dale and Karen once again had organised a fantastic event and their efforts and dedication to the children that attend the dance academy should be applauded.

We also helped to present awards to a number of children throughout the evening; it was a very special occasion and I was thankful to be a part of recognising their talents and achievements.

I am available to all, if anybody has any questions please just contact me and I will do my best to help.
