BACUP Camera Club
OVER the summer Bacup Camera Club entered the annual photographic competition organised by the InterClub Photographic Alliance ( ICPA), which is a grouping of photographic societies in south Lancashire.
The club did reasonably well, finishing fifth (out of a total of 13 clubs) for black- and- white prints and colour prints, and sixth (out of 11 clubs) for digital projected images, not bad for a club as small as ours.
The highest scoring black- and- white prints by Bacup club members were by Anthony Black, Ian Bramwell and Colin Hubbard, who all scored 18 out of 20 marks for their images. The highest scoring colour prints by Bacup members were by Anthony Black and Rick Cowley, who also scored 18 out of 20. The top scoring Bacup club member for digital projected images was Leo Turner, who also scored 18.
It is always interesting to see how our images compare with the work of other clubs, but there are always variations between judges in assessing what makes a good photograph. For example, the overall winner of the Bacup club’s internal annual competition this year only managed 15 out of 20 in this ICPA competition, whereas other club members fared better in this inter- club competition than in the Bacup club’s own internal competition. It just goes to show once again that there is no magic formula for making a great photograph and that “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”! And anyway, to slightly misquote the famous Olympics quotation, “it’s not the winning that matters but the taking part”!
The club meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm at St. Mary’s Parish Church Hall, Dale Street, Bacup, for a programme of talks, workshops, demonstrations, and picture assessments. New members or visitors are always welcome, be they beginners or more experienced. For more information visit our website www.bacupcameraclub.org.uk.
