Coun Ann Kenyon
Mayor of Rossendale
THIS month has been very busy with mayoral engagements. There has been so much happening within the communities of Rossendale it has made me extremely proud to be from Rossendale.
The past month began with a visit to the Stacksteads Lantern Parade. I was privileged to be able to lead the parade from Toll Bar to Stacksteads Riverside Park. There were some fantastic lantern designs and the Drum Majorettes also gave a brilliant performance.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Haslingden Concert Band, VIC Singing Group, Father Brown and the church volunteers at St Peter’s Church for a delightful concert.
The band played a number of well-known musical pieces including Dambusters March and Skyfall, and the VIC Singing Group also treated guests to a number of renditions including; ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘Hallelujah’. I would also like to thank Pam Thomas and Mr David Hoyle for their wonderful readings.
Towards the end of this month I attend the celebration event at Whitwell Bottom Community Centre.
The Community Centre has now been taken over by The Whitwell Bottom Community Association and will continue to be used by people of ages, including Whitwell Bottom Pre School.
I was honoured to be able to show my support by attending this event and I am delighted that this building will still be able to be actively used by the residents of Rossendale.
The last weekend this month was filled with wonderful and poignant remembrance services and events throughout the borough.
I attended a number of services at Edenfield, Stacksteads, Haslingden, Helmshore and Haslingden. E each and every one of the services was well organised by each community group and well attended by the people of Rossendale.
I also attended two special celebration events to commemorate the WW1 Anniversary; the musical concert at The Riverside & the Beacon Lighting Event in Rawtenstall.
I was particularly moved by the efforts the children had made in respect of the remembrance events; in particular, two children from Edenfield County Primary School who created a display around the D-Day landings.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the children, communities and residents of Rossendale, for their efforts in remembering those servicemen and women that fought for our freedom.
Between now and Christmas I have two charity events taking place to help to raise money for this year’s chosen charities.
I will be holding a Fashion Show on Thursday, November 22 and a Charity Christmas Meal at the Spice Room on Thursday, December 6.
Further details can be found on the Rossendale Council website.
I once again thank you for all your support and I look forward to all my upcoming Christmas school visits over the coming month. PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED BY PRESSREADER
