Boro boys weather Storm Erik for Cup joy

-

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters has commended his team for overcoming the adversity of Storm Erik and defeating AFC Liverpool to reach the semi-final of the League First Division Cup.

The recent poor weather badly damaged the Bacup stadium, much to the frustration of boss Peters, so he was glad to see his players respond by picking up the 3-2 penalty shootout win after an initial 1-1 draw.

“I was totally devastated when I arrived at the ground on Saturday morning to see a large proportion of the dressing room roof sat in the middle of the pitch and the rest ripped off nestling in the visitors’ dugout,” he said.

“It left the entire changing block open to the elements, resulting in thousands of pounds worth of damage. We have had issues in the past from the likes of the ‘Beast from The East,’ but in my 21 years at this club, what I witnessed following Storm Erik is without doubt the worst I have witnessed.

“It was carnage. In life we all face adversity from time to time, be this from someone close’s death, bad health or a period of sheer bad luck, and at these difficult times you just want your boys to deliver, well at AFC Liverpool every single one of our boys stood together, stayed strong and won the game to progress into the semi-final, so for this I thank each and every one of them.

“Over the 90 minutes a draw was probably a fair result, but the quality and calmness of our penalty takers was enough to put us into the semi-final.”
