Homeless charity run
NEARLY 70 runners and walkers tackled a 5k route to raise money and awareness of the M3 Project, a charity supporting homeless 16 to 21-year-olds.
The second Run Out Homelessness 5k was a circuit route from Marl Pits to Higher Cloughfold.
With the emphasis on fun, the event started with a hula hooping warm up session led by the charity’s Chantelle Dhont.
Among the participants were former school friends Julie Ryder, Dawn Spencer-Hall, Amanda Kilshaw and Vanessa Hamlet who were joined by friend Suzanne White and Dawn’s daughters Phoebe and Poppy.
Co-op stores provided five members of staff who joined M3 staff and volunteers to marshal the route.
The Co-op, Asda and Morrisons contributed
●● items and water for goodie bags presented to everyone who took part. The Veg Shop in Rawtenstall donated oranges.
Rossendale Harriers and the Rossendale Triathlon Team supported with event logistics.
Charity development worker Lynn Haworth said they were very grateful for the support received to make the event a success.
She added: “So far we have raised £550 with further money still coming in. It was also about raising our profile and awareness of what we do. If someone knows a young person aged 16 to 21 who is homeless or likely to face homelessness then now they will know more about how we can help.”
