HASLINGDEN LADIES LIFEBOAT GUILD

-

THE ladies of the Haslingden Lifeboat Guild held their annual Strawberry Tea on Wednesday, July 10.

They prepared 620 teas in St Veronica’s Hall and this mammoth task was undertaken by committee members and volunteers.

The amount raised for RNLI funds was £1,500 and chairman of the Guild, Anita Collinge, thanked committee member Mhairi Brady for co-ordinating the event and everyone who helped on the day.

A special thank you goes to all the local businesses in Haslingden and Helmshore for their continued support.

The RNLI is the charity which saves life at sea, around the coastline and in flooded areas.

With beaches becoming busier during the summer lifeboat crews and lifeguards will be very busy keeping families safe.

All of this is paid for entirely from donations, legacies and fundraising events.

ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

THE sun continues to ●● The ladies of the Guild (and helpers) with the finished products shortly before delivery shine upon our walks, so on Wednesday, July 17, 29 ramblers had a lovely 11 mile walk in Nidderdale, starting from Pateley Bridge – a lovely old town.

The highlight was the contorted and delightful Brimham Rocks, a well- frequented National Trust site popular with families.

Then on Thursday, July 18, we had a brilliant turnout of 35 for our short evening pub walk from the Griffin Inn in Haslingden up to the Halo panopticon viewpoint.

It was sad to see that the display boards at the top have been vandalised. Most came into the pub at the end of the walk for a chatty wind-down.

Walks are coming up thick and fast, so we hope that one or other of the following walks will appeal to you.

On Sunday, July 28 we have an easy six mile walk from Burrs Country Park in Bury, starting at 10.30am.

You may be surprised at how much interest there is on this walk, so please come to find out.

The walk will finish by 2pm at the latest, leaving the rest of your day free.

Then on Wednesday, July 31 we have a 10 mile walk from the lovely village of Wycoller, near Colne.

The route is a secret as yet, but you may well see another panopticon – The Atom.

On Thursday, August 1 there is another two hour very sociable evening pub walk from the Peel Park Hotel in Accrington, visiting The Coppice – lovely views are guaranteed in good weather.

Finally, on Friday, August 2 we have a 10 mile linear walk from Bury to Rawtenstall.

This uses the bus from Rawtenstall to Bury, returning via a circuitous route!

These walks are free, but after three walks with us we invite you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.35 per month.

BACUP CAMERA CLUB

MEMBERS of Bacup Camera Club recently continued their twicemonthly evening photographic excursions by visiting the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall in Padiham.

The bright low evening sun produced very challenging and contrasting lighting conditions, but members still managed to capture some worthwhile images of the gardens and the exterior of the hall.

The club will restart its indoor Wednesday evening meetings in early September, at the church hall in Dale Street, Bacup.

New members or visitors wishing to improve their photography are always welcome.

For more information visit www. bacupcameraclub.org.uk.
