MR Walter Davies, of Irwell House, Waterfoot, died on Saturday, July 27, aged 97, at Pendle Community Hospital, Nelson.

He had worked for Scapa Porritt prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed watching all sports, especially snooker, and played football as a young man. During the war whilst serving in the Irish Guards he played football for Crystal Palace.

He was a member of the Royal British Legion and also Rawtenstal­l Cricket Club, where he was a committee man for 28 years. He was a very well-known singer and entertaine­r in Rossendale, Burnley and Bury.

He leaves sons John, Robert and Brian, daughters-in-law Elaine, Catherine and Christine, together with grandchild­ren Keeley, Natalie, Alex, Christophe­r, Liam and Martin. He also leaves greatgrand­children Mia, Alyssa, Eleanor, Myles Henry, Alexi and Luciano, together with granddaugh­ters-in-law Katie, Hilary, and Lynda, and grandsons-in-law Lee and Loris.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 8, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if preferred, requested to the Royal British Legion.

Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Services. MRS Barbara Norman, of Heron Place, Rawtenstal­l, died at home surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, July 23, aged 80.

Her main profession was a baker and caring for her family, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmothe­r.

Barbara was a member of the WI and enjoyed reading and holidays with her husband as well as spending time with her family and friends.

Wife to Roland, she was mother to Adele, Gary and the late Sandra, grandmothe­r to Sofi, Izak, Nickaela and Luke, and was also greatgrand­mother to Theo.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, July 31, conducted by Rev Peter Heywood, at Hamers Funeral Service followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

Donations are requested to Lymphoma Action and Rossendale Hospice.

BERYL SPARKS

MRS Beryl Sparks nee Fields, formerly of Crawshawbo­oth, died at Henley House Care Home, Accrington, on Thursday, July 25, aged 90.

Beryl worked for Lancashire County Council as a Community Home Care Assistant until she retired.

Beryl was an active member and Brown Owl at the former St John’s Church in Crawshawbo­oth.

Loved wife of the late Alan, she was devoted mum of David, dear mother-in-law of Dawn, treasured grandma ‘B’ to Jack, Josh, Kelly and Jordan, great-grandma of Amelia and Harley, loved sister of Ken and a loved auntie of many.

The funeral will take place on Monday, August 5, at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11am, conducted by Rev Chris Casey.

MARGUERITE HARTLEY

MARGUERITE Mary Hartley, of Park Road, Waterfoot, died on Saturday, July 27, aged 85.

She started work as a nurse, then worked as a supervisor at Victory V, then a market stall holder and shopkeeper.

Prior to retirement she worked as a carer at the Parrock House where she made lots of friends.

She enjoyed shopping, television, card marking, cooking and baking and caravannin­g and picnics.

She was the wife and mum of the late Jim and Andrew, and she leaves sons John and wife Sarah, Tim and Lisa, and Matt and Karen, grandchild­ren Ross, Sarah, Jodie, Oliver, Zack, Luke and Lizzie, great-grandchild­ren Lennox, Ruby, Nora, Reuben, brothers Tom and Jim, sister Joan and nephews and nieces.

There will be prayers at the Chapel of Rest on Friday, August 9, at 12.45pm followed by service and cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 1.40pm.

Family flowers and donations to the British Heart Foundation.
