GCSE results day could not have gone better for Jess Morrissey, 16, after she gained five 9s in Combined Science, Maths, Design and Technology and English Literature. Jess also achieved one 8, one 7 and two 6s.
The Rawtenstall student, who dreams of becoming a research scientist and is continuing her studies at Alder Grange Sixth Form, ag6, said: “I honestly didn’t think my exams went that well, I was so shocked to open my results. All the revision seems so worth it now!”
Jess dreams of one day making a difference and dedicating her life to research, adding: “I want to help people and I love science. I’m looking forward to continuing at ag6 and then going on to study science at university.”
Rhea Kellar, 16, was left speechless after earning herself two 9s, two 8s and five 7s in her GCSE results from at Alder Grange School.
The keen runner from Rawtenstall was also deputy head girl during her final year at the school. Rhea enjoys charity work and has raised awareness of type 1 diabetes – a condition she has – within the school by arranging a fundraising non-uniform day.
She said: “I had to leave some of my exams to check my sugar levels – it was difficult but now I’m just so happy. I honestly can’t believe it. I’ve enjoyed every subject here at school and I’m excited to start college in September.”

Jack Trippier, 16, is cele
brating after achieving a 9, four 8s and two 7s in his GCSEs at Alder Grange School.
Jack said: “I’m feeling pretty good about my results – Astronomy was hard but I still enjoyed it, I find it really interesting. I found Sociology and Chemistry tricky subjects too so I’m glad I got 8s in those.
“I’ve always been confident with the sciences so I would’ve been gutted if I’d not done well in them!”
Jack’s chosen to continue studying at Alder Grange and has signed up for the sixth form, ag6, to study Maths, Chemistry and Physics with a view to study Medicine in the future.
He said: “I’ve looked into it and I’d like to study Medicine at The University of Edinburgh, so that’s my next step for after sixth form.
There could also be a furry friend on the horizon for Jack, as his mum had promised to buy the family a dog to celebrate his GCSE results!
Nifa Rahman, 16, is well on her way to her dream career in Psychotherapy after achieving a 9, two 8s and two 7s in her GCSE results from Alder Grange School.
Nifa, who lives in Rawtenstall, was visibly relieved when she collected her results and saw her place at Alder Grange Sixth Form, ag6, confirmed.
She said: “I’m just so glad it’s over! I am so proud of myself – I’d convinced myself I was going to fail Maths and get a low grade in Science but I pushed myself to work hard and I’m really proud of what I got.”
From September, Nifa will be a sixth form student at ag6, studying Psychology, Biology, Chemistry and English Language.
She said: “I’m hoping for a career in Psychotherapy and dealing with mental health and addictions, so that’ll be my next step after completing college. For now I’m just really happy!” Keen astrologer Harri
son Peak, 16, has exceeded expectations after receiving two 9s in his Biology and Physics GCSEs, as well as two 8s and four 7s from Alder Grange School.
Harrison, who dreams of a career in science, said: “I’m really happy with my results. Biology and Physics are my favourite subjects so I’m really pleased I got 9s in them.”
Harrison, who enjoys stargazing and the science behind telescopes, hopes to pursue his interests at Alder Grange Sixth Form, ag6, where he will study Psychology and Science from September.
He added: “It’s great because I’ll already know the teachers from main school, so I’m glad I’ll be able to see them at college next year.”
Joe Campbell, 16, has decided he wants to follow his passion for science after achieving fantastic results in his GCSEs at Alder Grange School.
Joe, of Crawshawbooth, achieved three 8s in Design Technology, Physics and Chemistry, as well as four 7s and two 6s.
He said: “I’m so relieved to finally have my results. All the hard work has now paid off!”
Joe also completed the Duke of Edinburgh Award whilst at Alder Grange.

more has achieved two 8s, five 7s and two 6s in her GCSEs, and is now aiming for a career in journalism or law.
Isabelle, 16, of Crawshawbooth, believes the relationship she has with the school and the teachers has helped her achieve her results.
She said: “It’s been a really good year for me. The teachers here are really supportive and have constantly pushed me to work hard. I’m really happy with my results.”
Isabelle will now head to Burnley College to study English, Law and Psychology.
Guitarist Hannah Ward from Bacup is one step closer to a career in music after earning herself two 8s in Maths and Biology, as well as six 7s in her GCSEs from Alder Grange School.
Hannah, 16, said the school and its teaching staff was the reason to her success, saying: “You can always get help and extra support here when you need it.”
Hannah is continuing on to Alder Grange Sixth Form, ag6, with the small class sizes and friendliness of the teachers making her decision an easy one.
Billie Harris is looking forward to a potential career in Law after collecting her GCSE results from Alder Grange School.
The 16-year-old from Rawtenstall said: “I’m really happy with my results. To be honest, I found all the exams difficult and especially Maths, but I’m pleased with the mark I got for that.”
Billie is choosing to stay on at Alder Grange Sixth Form, ag6, studying History, Sociology, English Language and Law.
She said: “My mind changes a lot when it comes to what’s next, I think it might go down the Law route but it’s still early days. I’m just going to see how the course goes once I start at ag6.”
Footballer Chloe
Broughton has achieved three 8s in her GCSEs in Physical Education, Physics and Maths, as well as four 7s and one 6.
Chloe, who has just signed a two-year contract with Manchester United, now plans to chase her dream of becoming a professional footballer and even representing England one day.
Chloe said of her time at Alder Grange School: “The teachers here have been brilliant – they’ve made sure I keep on track of everything at school while also encouraging me to follow my heart in football.
“I’ve got the grades I needed so I’m looking forward to starting with Manchester United.”
Chloe will now study at Leigh College while she trains with Manchester United.
FUTURE aeronautical engineer Dominic Pratt has got his career off to a flying start with four GCSEs at Grade 9.
The Whitworth Community High School student got the top grade in maths,
biology, chemistry and physics, Grade 8 in drama, Grades 7 in English language, geography and religious studies and two further GCSEs. He is now going on to study A Levels in maths and sciences at Rochdale Sixth Form.
Dominic, 16, from Shawclough, said: “I am hoping to go on to university, possibly in Manchester or even higher. I like the subjects I have picked because these are all subjects that I am passionate about and because of the questions you can put and the answers you can get.
“Every time you come into school you learn something new and, of all the subjects I have studied, physics is my favourite because it is more about why.”
A two-hour dash back from his holiday in the Lake District was rewarded for Whitworth’s Ryan Pye when he achieved top grades in three of his GCSEs.
The 15-year-old from Whitworth Community High School is now looking forward to studying maths, physics and music at Rochdale Sixth Form.
He said: “I would like to do a degree in astro-physics; that is the field I would like to go into so I am studying maths and physics A Levels. I also like music and play drums and guitar and so it will be good to also be doing a completely different subject at A Level.”
As well as Grade 9s in maths, physics and chemistry, he achieved Grade 8s in music, religious studies, Biology, English Literature and Language and Grade 7s in history and art and design.
Dancer Georgia Mellor will be studying maths, physics and PE at Rochdale Sixth Form.
Georgia, 16, from Britannia, attends Samba Dance and Fitness at Whitworth.
She was delighted with her GCSE results when she called in to Whitworth Community High School.
She achieved Grade 8s in maths, English literature and religious studies, Grade 7s in combined sciences and English languages and two further GCSEs.
She said: “I didn’t expect to be doing science for A Level because I got a Grade 6 in my mock but I achieved my highest score in physics.
“I am looking forward to sixth form and having less lessons to frees and studying afresh. I really tried in lessons and I am glad that I did.”
Head prefect at Whitworth Community High School Megan Lucas achieved excellent GCSE results and hopes to become a food scientist.
She said: “At Whitworth I was in the Debate Society and I have really come out of my shell, which is a massive thanks to Mrs Iqbal. Every Friday lunchtime I would attend the society and it gave me a lot of confidence.
“Thanks to English teacher Miss Barnes, I also rediscovered my love for the English language and I am now going on to study it at A Level.”
Megan, 16, from Bacup, achieved Grade 9 in religious studies, Grade 8s in biology, chemistry and English literature and Grade 7s in English language, physics, maths, history and computer science and a BTEC distinction star in Food Studies.
She will be studying English literature and language combined, chemistry, biology and history A Levels at Burnley College and hopes to do an additional honours course qualification.
Having started her high school career in set 3 for maths, Isabel Dexter moved up to set 1 and achieved a Grade 7 at GCSE.
At Whitworth Community High School she also picked up a Grade 8 in religious studies, further Grade 7s in English language and literature and five other GCSEs.
Isabel, 16, from Whitworth, said: “I will be studying law, psychology and sociology at Rochdale Sixth Form and I want to be a lawyer. I have always found law quite interesting and am enjoy watching crime and court programmes.
“I didn’t expect to do so well in maths but I worked hard and I also got support from my teachers.
“Being a prefect in school has also given me confidence and I will miss being in school and seeing everyone.”
