NEW Starbucks’ open day in Ramsbottom causes stir (August 16):

Joanne Earnshaw: I’d much rather support local businesses...Ramsbottom has so many lovely coffee shops and cafes...why go here and take custom away from them? Eddie Mitchell: Never thought I’d see people queuing outside for a coffee in my lifetime! Paul Gee: Mohammed Tayab, head of Starbucks at EG Group, said: “The store team and I are so excited to open the first Starbucks store in Ramsbottom.” Does this mean they’re planning more outlets in Rammy, how big do they think the town is? Iain Blyfield: Some people really need to get a grip in Rammy. This has improved the garage site no end from what it used to be like. All the independent shops are still open and jobs have been created. Your choice where you buy your coffee/tea from, same as petrol - stop moaning about investment in the town. Michelle Shiels: Let’s just hope they don’t park outside someone’s house while sitting in having a coffee! Tony Mark: They queued for expensive coffee? Really? Dominique Nolan Beccy Pop: Nicola McCann let’s try this on our next coffee date! Sarah Jane Winfield: Mohammed Ali yes!

WEIR knit and natters hand over ‘trauma teddies’ (August 16):

Maggie Clegg: Fantastic, well done to all involved Janet Golden: What a lovely idea! Janet O’Driscoll: A lovely kind hearted group who offer so much to our community x Phill Knox: Great work, great to see.
