Champions lose ground on leaders

LANCASHIRE AND CHESHIRE LEAGUE THE game of the day in the Premier divisions saw the top two teams in opposition as Whalley Range hosted reigning champions Rochdalian­s.

With the champions on cup duty the week before Range had establishe­d a threepoint advantage and they increased this to six with a 5-0 win.

Range went ahead with a spot kick and extended this to 3-0 at the break and although Rochdalian­s battled hard to get back into the game Range were able to add two more in the second half with their scorers being Rhys Jones (two), Danny Heffernan, Brian Tottoh and Larner Cole.

Another top game at High Lane saw Waterloo share six goals and the point they earned was enough to take them above Rochdalian­s on goal difference with a game in hand.

Salford Vics are in fourth spot again after another close contest saw them beat Abacus Media 3-2.

Dom Doyle have games in hand over the leading group and they kept in the hunt with a 6-3 win over Milton.

Mellor looked set for an easy ride at Trafford United as early goals from Will Parry (three), Mike Atherton and Danny Leabrick put them 5-0 ahead with United reducing the arrears just before the break.

Trafford kept up the revival as three unanswered strikes after the break leaving them just a goal shy of making a remarkable recovery.

Radclyffe continue to set an impressive start in division one as the won 4-0 at Urmston Town to preserve their 100 per cent record.

AFC Oldham match this, having played a game less having an efficient 2-0 win at Newton, a scoreline matched by thirdplace­d Irlam Tigers against Bury Ams who overtook Chorltonia­ns who went down 6-3 at Moston Brook.

Signol Old Boys were also on form with a 6-2 win at Old Stretfordi­ans and Manchester Polonia kept an immaculate clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Swinton.

It’s hot at the top of division two with three teams boasting 100 per cent records and South Manchester reserves are on top of the pile with a 3-1 win at Mellor reserves.

New boys North Walkden are in second spot having played a game less and they accounted for Chorltonia­ns reserves 4-2 with Bedians enjoying the same margin of victory over Santos.

Stoconians also have a 100-er cent record and had to work hard for a 4-3 victory over Hadfield Athletic for their second win of the season and in the other game Dukinfield Athletic had to work hard for a 2-1 win at Rochdalian­s reserves.

Just a point separates the top three in division three after Village Manchester suffered their first defeat of the season by 6-2 at second-placed Chadderton Cott.

Top pf the shop are Denton Town seconds who enjoyed a 6-1 cruise at Elton Lib Hargreaves.

Aldermere were emphatic 4-1 winners over Salford Vics reserves but it was closer in the other games with wins for Chadderton Park by 2-1 at Milton reserves and Stoconians seconds by 3-1 in their local derby at Spurley Hey and the other game ended with honours even as Hooley Bridge Celtic shared six goals with Signol Athletic.

Division A leaders AFC Stockport dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 deadlock at Trafford United reserves allowing Old Stretfodia­ns reserves to move within a point with a game in hand as they won 2-0 at Wythenshaw­e Wanderers.

Waterloo reserves are in third place after a 4-2 derby win at Dukinfield Athletic reserves and Deans enjoyed a comfortabl­e 5-0 win hosting Salford Storm.
