Retail giants return as Jack’s hits road
TESCO has returned to Rawtenstall for a SECOND time after bosses ditched their spin-off discount replacement.
The supermarket giant was due to re-open on Bocholt Way on Thursday, November 21, just months after replacing it with their own discount outlet
Jack’s.
The ‘newly refreshed store’ will include products and brands “customers know and love” and an F&F clothing department, while the existing Costa, pharmacy and petrol filling station will remain.
Electric vehicle charging points have also been installed in the car park and a community space will be available to hire free of charge for local community groups, charities and clubs.
The former Tesco superstore was replaced in April by Jack’s, specialising in bulk-buy cheaper, own-brand goods.
But in September bosses confirmed that the ‘trial’ had not worked out and - following customer feedback - they would reverse the decision.
James Buckingham, Rawtenstall store manager, said: “After listening to feedback from the local community we are extremely proud to be bringing Tesco back to Rawtenstall.
“We want to thank the customers who used the Jack’s store but we hope this fresher and brighter new Tesco will serve them well.
“We’re proud to be able to support the Food Collection on our first few days of opening.
“It’s a chance for the local community and our customers to engage with the store and for Tesco to give something back and help those who need it most.”
The opening coincides with the national Tesco Food Collection event, where customers are being encouraged to donate long-life food to help food banks and community groups support people in need at Christmas.
