Brent bemoans poor decisions

-

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters was left with mixed emotions following his side’s entertaining 4-4 draw at Garstang on Saturday. It was a fantastic match for the neutral, with both teams playing some brilliant attacking football as they each took a point from the game.

Peters was taking charge of his 1,001st match as Bacup manager, and while he was happy with his team’s efforts in front of goal, he was frustrated with their defensive display.

“Sometimes you have to be grateful for short mercies. Despite how well and how clinical our strikers were on the day, scoring four goals on any ground should secure you a win, but when bad decisions are being made at the back, we self-destruct,” he said.

“We were in winning positions twice but twice we let our opponents back in and then they got the upper hand by taking a two goal cushion. This is where I have to applaud the boys for showing a lot of character by coming back as they did.

“I was pleased for Kyle Siddal as his two goals were just reward for his work ethic throughout. Matthew Bryan had a lot to do from an excellent through ball from Milo Ogden but typical Matty, he not only finished well but he made it look easy.

Finally the equalising goal, whilst I compliment Joel Gnabouyou for being in the right place to execute the equaliser, I must compliment Ryan

Standring for being in the position he was in which enabled him to recycle the ball back in for the finish.

“Whilst I am far from happy by the manner we conceded the goals we did, I am more than pleased with our attacking play and clinical finishing.”

Bacup will look to return to winning ways this weekend when they welcome nearby rivals Chadderton to the Brian Boys West View Stadium.

Bacup head into the match in 17th place in the North West Counties First Division North table, having won four, drawn four and lost seven of their 15 games so far this season. Chadderton are in 11th place, with six wins, two draws and seven defeats during the campaign so far.

Chadderton head into the match on the back of three straight defeats in the league, with the most recent of those coming last weekend when they were beaten 3-0 at home to Lower Breck.
