IRENE Crossland died at Lumb Valley Care Home, on Thursday, December 5, aged 87.

Wife of the late Eric Crossland, mother of Carol and John, she leaves grandchild­ren Diane, John and Rachel, great-grandchild­ren Kyle, Chloe, Lauren, Jacob and Toby and long time friend Marilyn.

Irene was born in Ashton and went to school there.

After leaving school she went to work in the Co-op and Asda.

Later she met her future husband Eric and they were together for 53 years until he passed away.

Irene moved to Weir to be near her daughter and son-in-law before moving into Lumb Valley Care Home where she was showered with love and care.

Irene enjoyed going to the AB&D Community Centre for socialisin­g.

She also enjoyed her knitting and shopping and had much enjoyment attending the Doals Church and Community Centre where she had many friends.

The service will be officiated by Miles Alderson on Thursday, December 19 at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 1.30pm.

BARBARA MORLEY

MRS Barbara Morley, of Brendon House, Haslingden died on Saturday, November 30, at her home, aged 77.

She leaves her husband Tony, children Martin, Lynn, David, Shauna, and Matthew, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren, niece and nephew, and was sister to the late Maureen.

In her younger days she enjoyed ballet and tap dancing at Miss Shipstones Ballet School.

Her first job was at Mullard’s, Accrington where she won the Miss Mullard Beauty Competitio­n.

Barbara worked in local businesses including O’Keefe’s Chip Shop, Everest Cafe, and the Co-op, before retraining as a shorthand typist, her first job being as a holiday administra­tor with Pendle Travel, Haslingden which later became Air Tours.

She enjoyed many holidays abroad along with her husband and family.

She was a member of Haslingden Trades club and former member of the IDL Club, Haslingden.

Her funeral will take place on Friday, December 13 with a service at St Mary’s RC Church, Haslingden at 10.45am followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by Fr John Broadley.

MATTHEW HUDSON

MR Matthew Hudson, of Bury Road, Rawtenstal­l, died at Royal Blackburn

Hospital, on Sunday, December 1, aged 85.

He was a credit controller/accounts officer and retired from Leggetts Freightway­s in 1999.

He was a member of Longholme Methodist Church.

In his spare time he enjoyed reading, art, watching films, playing the piano, he was a circuit steward at the church and a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed cricket when he was younger.

He was widower of Hazel Hudson, who died in 2011.

A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 18, conducted by the Rev David Burrow, at 1pm at Longholme Methodist Church, followed by committal at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 2.30pm.

JOHN DEWHURST

MR John David Dewhurst, of Sussex Drive, Haslingden (formerly of Cross Street North, Haslingden) died as a result of a short and aggressive illness, on Thursday, December 5, at the Royal Blackburn

Hospital, aged 66.

Husband of the late

Ann Dewhurst, David, as he was known, leaves daughters Claire and Laura, sons-in-law Eamonn and Dan, grandchild­ren Edie, Louis and Theo and brother and sisters Barbara, Bryan and Margery.

David worked as a plumber with his father, James Reginald Dewhurst of Regent Street, and later ran his own plumbing business.

He played for St Mary’s football team and was a lifelong Burnley supporter.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 18 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, at 1.40pm, officiated by Neil Overton.

SANDRA PRITCHARD

SANDRA Angela Pritchard died on Tuesday, December 3, at The Royal Blackburn Hospital, with her devoted daughters and beloved partner at her side, aged 76.

The dearly loved partner of Bill, she was a much loved mother of Stephanie, Jacqueline, John and Michael, mother-in-law of Simon and Sharon Marie, and a doting and cherished Grandmothe­r (Nana) of Tiegan, Connor, Cerys and Meisha.

Sandra will be sadly missed by family and many friends.

A service will be held at Haslingden Methodist Church at 10.30am on Tuesday, December 17, prior to a burial at Haslingden Cemetery.

Reposing in the Chapel of Rest at Pleasant Street, Haslingden.

JOSEPH STANHOPE

MR Joseph Stanhope, formerly of Conway Road, Rossendale, died on Tuesday, November 12, at Fairfield General

Hospital, aged 92.

Joe, as he was known, was a headmaster at Westleigh High School.

In his spare time he enjoyed reading, crosswords, TV, sport especially football and Manchester United, and playing golf.

Joe was a member of RMVC choir and was a school governor at St Nicholas.

Husband to the late Jean, he was father of Peter and Sarah, grandfathe­r to Jonathan, Laura and Joseph and great-grandfathe­r to Jonah.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, December 16, at 1.15pm at St Nicholas Church, Newchurch, officiated by Rev Penny Warner, followed by cremation at Burnley at 2.30pm.

Donations are requested for Dementia UK.
