GOLF

THIS year has seen a series of amazing victories for the young players of Rossendale Golf Club.

Of a membership of over 35 their numbers list two international players and five Lancashire county players.

Harry Lord has been a member of the England Training Squad for two years and played for his country on the England Boys’ team against an Irish Boys’ team.

He has grown from success to success and is now studying in America to further his golf ambitions. Emily James won an international cap playing for Wales in the U16 Girls’ team versus Scotland and is a member of the Wales Golf High Performance Squad. Both have also represented Lancashire county teams.

Alex James played for the Lancashire U18 team, Thomas Davies and Isaac Gregson played for the U14 team all wore the red rose with pride.

A recent junior member, Luke Bartram won the 2019 Men’s’ Lancashire Amateur Championship at the age of 18 – the last young man to do that was Tommy Fleetwood at just 17.

Luke is now at Cypress College in America where he is hopefully following in the golf shoes of Tiger Woods playing on Tiger’s home course.

Other successes are,

Alex James who won St. Andrews Boys’

Open (David Ayton Trophy 2019); Jake Paolo-Yeoman winner of Kirkby Valley Junior European Open, ELGA Tour Championship and Bury Golf Club Open is to name just a few of his successes.

Jake also finished top of the Rossendale Junior Section League closely followed by Isaac Gregson the first junior to ever win the U14 Lancashire Championships with a net 68 and then went on to win the Lancashire Schools Championships.

The team successes include winning the Blackburn Town League, making it to the semi-finals of The Home Nations Championships and the finals of the BMW Championship.

The Chair of the Junior Section, Derek Cropper (pictured below far left) said; “I couldn’t be prouder of the Juniors and how well they play and represent both the club and themselves. Their behaviour is exemplary and their play just rocks. I am looking forward to the 2020 season and would like to encourage young people to come and play the game at our club and be a part of a growing success. I would also like to add my sincere thanks for coaches Scott Goodwin and Bev Dodd and to all the volunteers who make the Junior section such a great success.”
