‘Psychopath’ grabbed woman, 71, at store
SERIAL rapist Joseph McCann kidnapped a 71-year-old woman at a Morrisons supermarket.
She was driven to an industrial estate by McCann after he abducted her in the Ramsbottom car park on May 5.
The pensioner was raped by McCann at a car park in the industrial estate in her car, which he later stole.
In a police interview which was played to his trial at the Old Bailey, the woman described how she had finished shopping when McCann approached her car.
“He got into the passenger seat,” she told police. “I shouted, ‘Get out, get out’ and that is when he punched me in the face.
“He said, ‘I don’t want to do that, I have got a grandma’. He said he wanted a life. He said, ‘I don’t want to hurt you. I have got a knife. I have killed somebody.”
The woman had called at the supermarket after attending church that morning. She began driving onto the M66, but was made to switch seats as McCann said he wanted to buy cigarettes.
After they stopped at a service station, she was driven to the entrance of an industrial estate.
“He got a bottle of wine out from my car and was drinking that while driving,” she said.
“We got into this car park and he said, ‘We’ll have sex now whilst we are waiting.” She was made to partially undress and perform a sex act on him.
“At some point, he threw my phone into the undergrowth”, she said.
He drove them to a cashpoint and used her bank card to withdraw money before meeting with a group of “youngsters”.
She was made to get into the driver’s seat again while a “little girl” got into the back seat with McCann.
He ordered her to drive to Manchester but because he was “messing about” and was not looking where they were going. She drove in the wrong direction, before pulling up at Knutsford service station as they were running low on fuel.
As she got out of the car, McCann realised and ran after her. She told police the 13-year-old girl in the back seat ran off, while McCann grabbed the car keys and drove off.
