INSULTED BY EMAIL

DO any other residents of Rossendale feel stigmatised and insulted when they receive an email from the address debtors@ rossendalebc.gov.uk?

As I am being a responsible citizen, paying for the service of garden waste collection, I don’t believe I should be labelled as a “debtor” but as a “customer”.

As the payment for this service is not yet overdue and I could still cancel my direct debit if I want to, could I not reasonably expect to receive an email from a less aggressive and hostile source, such “payments@ ...” or customers@...

I believe this email address does nothing to assuage the state of tension which already exists between the council and many residents.

Or am I just being over-sensitive?

CUTS BIG PART IN FLOODING

I REALLY feel for all the people who have been affected by the recent flooding.

Businesses and residential properties [have been] badly damaged.

Whilst there was an extreme amount of water I feel council, i.e. government cuts have a played a major part.

Councils rarely gully pump the blocked drains, rivers aren’t cleared of silt build up.

A lack of basic maintenance leaves properties exposed as the water has nowhere to go so it stays on the roads and rivers overflow.

We need a more proactive approach. Joe Donnelly Address supplied

TRIBUTE TO CAROLINE

MANY readers will have been saddened by the tragic death of Caroline Flack. One reader put his reflections down in verse:

On Strictly Come Dancing she found fame,

The best Strictly performance ever, she did claim.

“Angels” an eternal monument she did shed,

“When I come to call, I’m loving angels instead.”

Many hearts will be broken Caroline was ace,

Put under pressure due to an on going case.

Her final Instagram post showed her giving her dog a kiss,

Talented, smart and likeable, Caroline we will sadly miss.

She reached out to people when things were tough,

Doing all she could to succeed when times were rough.

Such a talented girl but vulnerable was hounded by the press,

A prosecution should have been private, avoiding the stress.

Tragically Caroline is not here any more

Good night angel, whom we did adore.

Sorry you didn’t get the help you did deserve,

A lesson for the press and prosecution to observe!

Heaven has a new angel up there in the sky,

Dancing in the clouds way up high.

Unfortunately we can’t bring Caroline back,

But millions will fondly remember Caroline Flack. Hugh Davies
