Haslingden teams leaping to success
APLACE in the national trampoline final beckons for Haslingden
High School’s boys’ team and individual Lucie Waters.
Last year the team of Harry Sneddon, Josh Lowthion, Will Harding and Max Harwood-Lomax won the national final, but at that stage they were competing in the novice category.
Max, 12, said: “This year we have been moved up to the Year 7-9 intermediate category so we have to do harder routines to a higher tariff.”
They won the North West regional heat in Wigan giving them a final spot in the Northern Zone
Trampoline Competition in Newcastle and they were second by just two points to King Ecgbert School.
The top two teams qualify for the final in Southampton next month, but Will, 14, who also competed in the individual category, missed out on a finals’ place by 0.2 points, coming fourth.
They all said the trampolines were tricky as they were not as bouncy as they were used to. Max said: “Josh usually beats me by a mile but this time I got a higher score than him.”
As well as practising in the school club, Max and Josh train in the movement hall at The
Valley Leadership Academy and Will and Harry get extra tuition at Bury Trampoline Club.
Harry said: “We now need to work on improving our conditioning and flexibility.”
Will said: “We need to train a bit more and not just cram the routines into the last few weeks.”
The junior Year 7-9 team of Lucie-Mae Haigh, Lucie Waters, Millee Schofield and Ella Edwards also earned a place in the Northern final and were sixth.
Lucie Waters also competed in the individual competition and was third meaning she too has a place in the national final.
