NHS ‘rallies the troops’ to help protect our vulnerable people

-

THE NHS is “rallying the troops” for the war on coronavirus, with volunteers being called up to help vulnerable people stay safe and well at home.

The nation is looking for up to 250,000 volunteers to help up to 1.5 million people who have been asked to shield themselves from coronavirus because of underlying health conditions.

Members of the public can sign up quickly and easily at goodsamapp. org/NHS to become

NHS Volunteer Responders, and can be called on to do simple but vital tasks such as delivering medicines from pharmacies, driving patients to appointments, bringing them home from hospital, or making regular phone calls to check on people isolating at home.

The debt of gratitude we all owe to our emergency service and key workers, has been saluted by the LordLieutenant of Lancashire.

In a statement, The Lord Shuttleworth KG KCVO said: “At what is a difficult time for us all, I would like to record my thanks and support for all the work being done in Lancashire by our public services and others working to protect our people.

“The NHS is inevitably on the front line, and I know what a sterling job it is doing.

“It and our community also rely on the help of those in the Ambulance service, the Constabulary, the Fire and Rescue service, public utilities, and our teachers, local authority staff, food workers, carers and many other vital professionals and volunteers.

“At times like this, we are reminded of the value and commitment of all these people, and how grateful we are for it. I am confident that we can get through the months ahead if we all work together and help each other.”
