Tributes as fun-loving man loses cancer battle

TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘kind, fun loving and popular’ man who died after battling bowel cancer for five years

Chris Goggins, known to many as ‘Goggs’, of Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Friday, March 13, aged 39.

Chris, who had a successful career in accounting and auditing, had a great love for the outdoors and was very well known in the Waterfoot and Bacup areas.

He was the son of John and Sheila and brother of Tim, Tracey, Tina and John, and partner to Shelly.

He also leaves his beloved dog Toby Jug, extended family and many friends.

Chris’s mother Sheila, said: “He was kind, considerat­e and fun loving. The word that’s come up most often in the tributes from his friends and been ‘legend’.

“He would be first up on the dancefloor and the last to leave.”

Mrs Goggins said Chris had a successful career and started work at Tenons at Bacup and Rochdale as a trainer auditor, then went to Savills in Manchester as a property accountant. before being promoted to associate team leader.

He then went to Roseland Property as a finance manager and was promoted to finance director.

Mrs Goggins, who lives in Newchurch, said despite a diagnosis of bowel cancer several years ago, Chris continued his passion for walking in the Lakes and elsewhere and continued working.

She said: “He never handed in a sick note until a week before his death.”

She added: “He was a keen sportsman, loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking in the Lake District as well as ice climbing, canoeing and adventure sports.

A funeral service took place on Tuesday, March 24, conducted by the minister Kathy Unsworth, at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

Donations in memory of ‘Goggs’ are requested to Cancer Research UK and East Lancashire Hospital Trust.

The donations will be split between the oncology ward and the chemothera­py ward.
