MARION Seedhouse passed away on Sunday, June 21, aged 73.

A private funeral took place at Burnley Crematoriu­m on Wednesday, July 1.

The family would like to thank all family and friends for their kind words and cards of condolence and also thank the Macmillan Nurses, district nurses, care staff and staff at the Christie Hospital and Pendleside Hospice.

KATHLEEN DAWSON

active member at Newchurch Methodist Church for over 50 years where she had a wealth of friends, was involved in committee work with the Ladies Aid, and had an active social life. She was also formerly a member of Rawtenstal­l Spirituali­st Church and was a trustee of Rossendale Spirituali­st Centre.

Kathleen loved sequence dancing with Bob, particular­ly on a Wednesday evening at the Astoria. She also loved to walk, enjoyed listening to music, cryptic crosswords, and reading. She loved to be with her family and was a lovely lady ‘inside and out’. She will be greatly missed.

Her funeral will be conducted by the Rev David Burrow at Burnley Crematoriu­m on Friday, July 3. Family flowers only, donations will be for the Alzheimer’s Society and Rossendale Hospice.

JEAN CORLESS

MRS Jean Corless (nee Hardaker) passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 22, surrounded by her loving family, aged 79.

There was a gathering to celebrate Jean’s life at her home in Rising Bridge on Tuesday, June 30. The family then attended Burnley Crematoriu­m for a service conducted by the Rev Tom Donaghey.

A live stream was played from the crematoriu­m.

Jean was born in Waterfoot, moving to Lancaster when she was eight. It was here she met her best friends Sheila and Jenny. On moving back to Rossendale, she became a machinist, and spent her working life in numerous slipper works.

One of three sisters along with Dorothy and the late Shirley Dutton, Jean was loved by her extended family, nieces, nephews and her cousin Renee. Jean was affectiona­tely known as aunty or nana to many. After her retirement she became an active member of Rossendale

Responsibl­e Animal Rescue and was a dedicated member of the team, raising money for a charity she held close to her heart.

Her infectious laugh and caring nature would light up a room. A loving wife to Jack, doting mother to Jacqueline, Suzanne and Desnee, nana to John, Jamie, Jack, Jodi, Jordan, Lilly and Rosie, and greatgrand­mother to nine great-grandchild­ren.

JOHN NAYLOR MURGATROYD

MR John Naylor Murgatroyd, of Greenbank Park, Rawtenstal­l, died on Sunday, June 21 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 64.

John was a company secretary and finance officer and retired from the East Lancashire Masonic Benevolent Institutio­n in 1997.

He was a keen cyclist in his youth, as part of Rossendale Wheelers, was later a regular golfer at Rossendale Golf Club and was a member of the Freemasons and Past Master of Cribden Lodge.

He was husband of Jean Murgatroyd, and father of Adrian and Clive Murgatroyd.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 7 at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

GERALDINE ROUPEE

GERALDINE Roupee, of Laurels Nursing Home, Bacup, died on Tuesday, June 23, at Laurels

Nursing Home, aged 89.

Geraldine was a ‘Jill of all trades’ working at Mullards valves, as a carer in a children’s home, pub cleaner and school dinner lady. In her earlier life she was an active member of the Labour Party and a member of the Women’s Institute at St Michael’s, Lumb.

Wife of the late Bob who died in January this year, she was mother of Neil, Lesley, Michelle and

Nigel, grandmothe­r to seven grandchild­ren and eight great-grandchild­ren.

The funeral will be held on Friday, July 3, led by Rev Stephen Crook, at 1.40pm at Accrington Crematoriu­m. Family flowers only, donations to Dementia UK.

FRANCES JOHNSON

MRS Frances Johnson, of Grane Road, Haslingden, died on Saturday, June 20, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 72.

She leaves her husband of 50 years Alan, daughter Gillian and son-in-law Anthony, grandson Brodie, sister Valarie and brother-in-law Barry, niece Kate and her husband Lee and great-nephew Will.

Frances worked in the textile industry all her working life and was the former Contracts Manager for Cookson & Clegg.

Her main interest was her garden and keeping pigeons, flying them successful­ly for Haslingden Borough Flying Club, for which she was secretary for many years, and latterly with Accrington & District Homing Society.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, July 7, with a service at St James Parish Church Haslingden at 1.15pm, followed by interment at Haslingden Cemetery officiated by Fr David Stephenson.

GORDON RHYMES

MR Gordon Colin Rhymes, of Hall Carr Road, Rawtenstal­l, passed away at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Sunday, June 28, aged 94.

Before retirement, Gordon was a machine setter for GKN Birmingham.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, model aircraft, old radios and electronic­s. He was also a member of Kay Street Baptist Church.

Husband to Yvonne he was father to Philip, Maxine, Colin, Alan, Trevor, Michelle, Gordon and Karen, and also leaves grandchild­ren

A private service will take place on Thursday, July 9, led by Matt Hirst.

NELLIE WALTON

NELLIE Walton, aged 70, sadly passed away after a short illness on Friday, June 26.

Nellie leaves her husband Joe, seven children, 14 grandchild­ren and two great-grandchild­ren.

MR Philip Charles Harris, of Slaidburn Avenue, Rawtenstal­l, passed away at home on Friday, June 26, aged 71.

Before ill health retirement, he was a waste operations area manager.

Husband of Jennifer, he was father to David and Carolyn, and grandfathe­r to Francesca, Jessica and Frankie. His parents and sister are deceased.

A private funeral will take place on Wednesday, July 8 at Accrington Crematoriu­m, led by Neil Overton. Family flowers only please, but donations if desired to British Heart Foundation.
