EAST Lancashire Railway answers concerns over study to restore defunct railway line (July 3):

Tracey Harris: I wish the people of Rossendale had an alternative reliable, direct transport service to places like Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester. I’m sure many people would use it.

Jack Eastwood: It’s a bit of a joke we’ve got a track running part time in and out of Rossendale with the motorways and environment in the way that they’re in. Shame the government didn’t select our rail link plans they’d have made such a difference. I’m all for the heritage aspect but it’s got to work hand in hand with businesses and the community. It’d be a shame if it became something to resent ELR for

Callum Brennan: Train or tram service is missing, I’d definitely be a user

Marc Goldring: I’ve seen the kind of trains we get sent up north for commuters, the ELR runs more modern trains!

Ian Scholes: The council back in the 60s weren’t interested in railways.

They liked new roads.

ANGER at Rawtenstall cemetery’s overflowing bins (June 3):

Maria White: Most probably won’t empty them cause they ain’t got the right rubbish in them Mandy Holden: Haslingden is the same, the up keep has gone really down hill.

Zach Goggins: Do they not have a grounds keeper?

Jeanette Farnworth Bowe: It’s definitely not one of the worse kept. My dad’s buried at St Mary’s and All Saints Churchyard Goodshaw which is never looked after. The grass is never cut, hedges and trees overgrown over people’s graves, no bins, it breaks my heart every time I go up there.

Paul Brown: Just to point out the councils have been cut millions of pounds since 2010 - so when people blame cuts it the government’s fault not the local authorities they have to cut their cloth accordingly with what they get given and make decisions what they spend it on

Sharon Simcock: Council cut backs or not there is no need to leave it in that state. Should have some respect for the people buried there and their families who visit.

Klaus Jeppesen: When it comes to flowers etc. why do they not make a bay, and compost it? Would leave space in the bins for other rubbish.

Lesley Poppy: What’s wrong with people not taking a carrier bag to take away the dead flowers them self.

Rose-Ann Swallow: A composting area would solve this problem, as long as people could be bothered to walk to it to dispose of their dead flowers and plants.

Steven Doyle: Take your own rubbish home with you and stop assuming its someone else’s responsibility.

Wesley Beswick: No surprise at all with the amazing council we have. Helen Valentine: Everyone happy to blame council /government, it’s not hard to take home if bins are full, it’s called taking responsibility for your own actions, sadly some people find this difficult to do

Maria Trainer: Haslingden just the same, absolutely disgusting
