Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of mum-of-three Dawn Walker, who died on Saturday at Royal

Preston Hospital, at the age of 38.

In a moving tribute just hours after her mum passed away, Dawn’s teenage daughter Nicole Leigh Walker posted on Facebook: “At 19 I never ever thought my mum would be taken away from me - not like this anyway.

“My little sleeping beauty, from day one you had my back, you raised me, picked me up and loved me with everything you could.

“We had some challenging times but you always tried and tried your best.

“My life is no longer complete and there will always be a hole in my heart that you have taken with you.

“The past 17 days have been torture but still being able to hold you, see you, touch you and assist you have made it a whole lot easier and for that to now go to nothing I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.”

Friends and wellwishers on the Bacup Past & Present Facebook page have been lighting candles for the former Fearns High School student as family clung to fading hope that she might recover.

Dawn leaves three children, and family including mother Trisha Taylor, sister Chantelle Taylor, and brother and sister- in- law Gary and Lyndsey Walker.

Speaking this week, Nicole told the Free Press her mum, who had battled some dark times and alcoholism was trying to turn her life around.

She said: “My mum was well known and well loved in Bacup.

“She was trying her hardest with counselling and raising her problems to the right departments for help. She was with Inspire and trying her hardest for her children.

“She will always hold a place in my heart no one will ever replace.

“She was my best friend, my rock.

“Your three children were your life and you’ve sadly been stolen from us. We miss you and love you.”

A gofundme.com fundraiser in Dawn’s memory has already raised more than £ 8,000 towards her funeral from more than 200 contributors.

Nicole’s friend Megan Whitehead, who organised the fundraising page, wrote: “Many people know and love Dawn as she was one of a kind with a huge heart and her infectious personality, she could light up any room she entered.

“She touched too many people’s hearts to mention and a massive hole will be left from her cruel departure to her next chapter, heaven is so lucky.

“We want to give this angel the best send off to see her loved ones in heaven waiting for her that anyone could imagine, it’s the very least she deserves.”
