WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page:

NEW Hall Hey site owners overturn ‘fly-parking’ ticket for shopping spree customer (July 10):

Leo Wen: It’s outside the town centre, how many people would actually “Fly park” to visit Bank Street?

Barbara Ashworth: People may use the car park to leave their vehicle and car share into work. A good idea but not on private land. Are they going to amend the signs though? I suspect many people have been caught out and not tried to appeal. They’ve set a precedent now.

Brenda Peters: We were also caught out in the beginning when we went to Costa for lunch after a good mooch round the shops, must have spent over £200. Didn’t know it was time restricted, hadn’t spotted the signs, didn’t think about appealing.

Adrienne Foster: My friend and I appealed parking tickets a year or so ago. We had visited several of the shops and provided receipts and photographs. We lost our appeals.

David Lee: The problem with these timed parking rules is that there are normally many shops you can visit. Even, as near me, there is a McDonald’s. Now, we are disabled and it take time for us to shop. There is simply not enough time to go shopping and maybe break for a coffee. If shops want to encourage business and we as shoppers wish to leisurely shop, then the parking rules need to be changed. I personally feel pressure to try to get all my shopping as quickly as I can. Sharon Simcock: I like to see more people using the ROSSO bus 13 Service to New Hall Hey Retail Park, then you wouldn’t need to worry about parking. Just saying...

Liz Howey: I was fined when the cameras were first introduced (the change was never advertised and many returning customers were stung as why would anyone read the parking signs if you are a frequent customer?). I was about 20 minutes over.

I too was a genuine shopper (receipts provided) but the terms and conditions don’t cover this and after two appeals I was forced to pay - I contacted Saville’s at the time but they were unsympathetic and said it was out of their hands. Maybe I should’ve just got the Rossendale Free Press to speak on my behalf.
