£50,000 drug farm is found after tip-offs
AHUGE cannabis farm worth £50,000 has been uncovered by police.
Officers from the local target team found around 100 plants at a house on Mersey Street in Bacup on Tuesday, July 21 after receiving reports from local residents.
Rossendale Police said a ‘significant cannabis grow’ was found throughout the property along with ‘several thousand pounds worth of growing equipment’.
No details have been released on any arrests but police said the money gained from the sale of the drugs would be used to fund ‘other illegal activities’ across Rossendale and the wider county.
In a post on Facebook, the target team said: “On the 21st July 2020, thanks once again to information received from the community, officers have attended an address on Mersey Street, Bacup.
“Officers have found a significant cannabis grow throughout the entire premises consisting of around 100 fully established plants and several thousand pounds worth of growing equipment.
“With each plant giving criminals an estimated yield of £200-400 this is another significant seizure and has hit organised crime for around £50,000 taking into account our seizure and destruction of the equipment at the premises.
“Whilst some members of the community may not feel this is an appropriate use of police time, let me assure you that the money gained by criminals from these grows is used to fund other illegal activities which keeps organised crime groups running and having a controlling hand in communities all over Rossendale, Lancashire and even further afield. These organised crime groups make communities lives a misery through theft, human trafficking, violence and intimidation. Targeting these people and taking away their source of funds is just one way we are trying to keep safe and improve the community you live in.
