A TREMENDOUS

-

school effort raised nearly £1,200 for charity, despite the vast majority of students still being home-schooled.

School usually holds a bumper charity day in

July when students create their own stalls and others participate in activities to raise money for good causes nominated by the students.

This year, with the Covid-19 pandemic changing the way schooling has operated, the staff and students did not want to miss out on raising money, so an online charity drive was launched.

Deputy head Russell Clarke ran a full marathon dressed as Forrest Gump, over the fells. Then he donned cycling gear and joined several staff members and families at the cycle track at Barrowford to complete laps.

Assistant headteacher Elaine Edyvean said: “Several members of staff plus families joined us at the cycle track at Barrowford near Colne to cycle the cumulative mileage to our partner school in Bad Aibling, Bavaria.

“We’ve so far covered almost 500 miles. We were also joined by student Robbie Barton and his brother.”

Kate Sieg-Hogg and Ms Edyvean baked cakes which raised a further £30; even members of the public came and bought some. Science teacher Dave Hargreaves brought along two tandems, which were used by several staff to add to the mileage and Geography teacher John Raho provided bike mechanic services for a charity donation. It was a great day and lovely for staff to see each other after so long - whilst still raising money that will be distributed to charities at the end of the term.

English teacher Vicki Smithson made NHS bears which were raffled to add to the funds; other staff sold chilli and tomato plants, made masks for sale and the Hassy Lockdown Cookbook also proved very popular.
