Floral tributes paid to tragic Dawn

DAWN Walker’s daughter has thanked everyone for their support and generosity ahead of her mum’s funeral on Friday.

Nicole Leigh Walker said they will meet at the Chapel of Rest in the morning before heading down to the cemetery for a small service.

The 38-year-old mumof-three died at Royal Preston Hospital on July 11 after being found with a bleed on the brain at a house on Newchurch Road on 16 days’ earlier.

A spectacula­r and moving display of floral tributes has built up on Newchurch Road, Bacup this week, while an online fundraisin­g page has raised more than £9,300 towards the funeral. One tribute read: “Beautiful Dawn. Always the cheeriest, but by far one of the BEST! Never will you be forgotten. Love Hannah xxx”

Nicole organised a vigil and toast in Dawn’s memory by the the flowers at 10.25pm on Saturday, July 18, one week after her death.

Speaking on behalf of the family, she told the Free Press that Friday’s funeral is an open invite, but will be abiding by social distancing rules and the maximum number of people allowed in the chapel.

She added: “I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone for all their support and us as a family are grateful.

“I’m heartbroke­n to have to lay my mum to rest, however I know she will be at peace with all our loved ones.”

Anthony Johnson Funeral Services, of Market Street, Bacup, said

Dawn’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 24 with a service at the Chapel of Rest at 11am followed by interment at Bacup Cemetery at 11.45am.

A 37-year-old male arrested on suspicion of assault after Ms Walker was found unconsciou­s at a house on Newchurch

Road, Bacup in the early hours of June 25, was bailed pending further enquiries.
