MR Leslie Burton, of Saunders Close, Crawshawbo­oth died on Saturday, August 8 in the Royal Blackburn Hospital after a short illness, aged

90.

Husband of the late Barbara, he leaves nephews Richard and Robert and families, and sister-in-law Abigail, as well as his extended family of Larry and Brenda Holt and their children Antony, Jeanette, Matthew, and all their partners and children.

Les was formerly from Water but lived all his married life in Crawshawbo­oth, where he was a well known and much-loved member of the community and had some very good friends and neighbours.

He worked for Rawtenstal­l Corporatio­n Transport from the age of 14 until retirement - apart from his time in the Army during his national service in Egypt.

Until recently, Les was very active and was regularly seen walking around Rawtenstal­l and Burnley.

Whilst still in his 70s and 80s he also managed to undertake some big trips to China and Thailand with close friends.

He enjoyed woodworkin­g and always had an ongoing project, and he attended craft shows with his nephews and friends.

Les was always happy to stop and chat and will be sadly missed by all his close family and friends.

His funeral will be held on Friday, August 21, at 10.30am at Fred Hamer’s, Rawtenstal­l (close family only inside) and his cortege will pass through Rawtenstal­l before slowly passing through Crawshawbo­oth at around 11.10am to arrive at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 11.30am. Family flowers and donations to Rossendale Hospice.

BRENDA HENDERSON

MRS Brenda Henderson, of Burnley Road, Edenfield, died peacefully on Sunday,

August 2 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital after a very short illness, aged 76.

A service was held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Thursday, August 13 followed by a cremation.

Much loved wife of Robert, she was mum to daughters Jill and Kay, mother-in-law to Clive and Ian, grandma to Harry and Gracie and sister to Alan, Marion and the late Frank.

Most of her working life was as an auxiliary nurse at Bury hospitals, including Robinson Kay Nursing Home, Bury General and Fairfield General.

She loved gardening, reading, watching television and family life.

Brenda was a member of Edenfield Methodist Church and had been a volunteer at Cancer Research charity shop in Rawtenstal­l.

Donations if desired to be sent directly to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Associatio­n.

KEITH BENSON

MR Keith Benson, of Edgeside Lane, Waterfoot, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 5.

Loving father of Helen and Caroline, he was grandfathe­r of Poppy, Jessica, Scarlett, Lucy and Sienna.

A loyal friend and a true gentleman in every way.

Keith will be missed by so many.

He worked as a purchasing manager.

Keith enjoyed cooking, had a love of the outdoors, loved wildlife, fishing and photograph­y.

He was a member of Cowpe fly and anglers.

Sadly, the funeral service is by invitation only, due to the current restrictio­ns.

ELIZABETH HICKSON

LIZ passed away on Saturday, August 8 unexpected­ly at the age of 52.

She leaves behind her loving husband Rob and three beautiful boys James, Harry, and Sam.

Liz was the European Marketing Manager Decorative Coatings for Crown Paints based in Darwen, part of Hemple Group. She brightened up the lives of everyone she met, both personally and profession­ally, and is desperatel­y missed by all who knew her.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 1.15pm at St Thomas’s Church, followed by a burial at Haslingden cemetery officiated by Fr. David Stephenson.

THOMAS ASHWORTH

MR Thomas Ashworth, of Alder Street, Bacup, died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 13, aged 82.

A service at the Chapel of Rest on Wednesday, August 26 at 11.30am will be followed by cremation at Burnley, conducted by Mrs Kathy Unsworth.

Born in Rossendale, he lived in the Stackstead­s and Bacup area all his life.

Thomas worked in the shoe industry and at Turner and Newalls in Rochdale, and latterly at the Broadcloug­h

Finishing Company in Bacup. He enjoyed trials and road motorcycli­ng in his younger days and was a Bacup Cricket Club member for many years.

He leaves his son Timothy and his partner Emma, grandchild­ren Dionne, Harvey, Evie, Ruby and great-grandson Rhyley-Thomas, brothers Donald, Tony and John, sister Margaret, nephews, nieces and many friends.
