Cat shot in head

-

A CAT was shot in the head in a sickening attack.

Rosie was found injured in the Mercer Crescent area of Helmshore and taken to Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue (RRAR) for treatment.

A pellet, believed to be from an air rifle, was removed by vets.

The brave pet was pictured after the shocking incident wearing a neck collar. Other pictures posted by RRAR on social media show the bullet used to injure Rosie.

Vets have confirmed it is not the first cat shooting incident in the area and Rossendale Police have been made aware.

RRAR said Rosie is set to make a “full recovery” but warned the situation “could have easily been so much worse”.

A spokesperson said: “Sadly she was shot in the head in the Mercer Crescent area at the Jubilee Road in Helmshore. Vets have confirmed there have been other cases recently too. Police are aware.

“Rosie is set to make a full recovery thankfully but things could have easily been so much worse. Please keep your cats safe and report any suspicious activity to Rossendale Police.”

No details have been released about when the attack happened.

Local residents have reacted with shock an horror and left messages of support on the RRAR Facebook page.

One said: “Poor Rosie. Hope they catch the vile human beings responsible for this cruel act.”

Another wrote: “How anyone can inflict harm on another is beyond me. Hope sweet Rosie finds a loving home where she will be safe.”

Another said: “What is wrong with some people! Hope she makes a speedy recovery.”

It comes just weeks after another cat was found seriously injured at Rawtenstall Tesco.
