Dad brings his sheepish tale of fear to book

ADAD- OF-THREE has written his own book inspired by one of his children’s fears.

Paul Carter-Jones, of Bank Terrace, Whitworth, was on a walk with one of his sons, who was afraid to walk past sheep. Paul wondered ‘What if a Viking had the same fear?’

He explained: “I had the idea for the book about a year ago. I’ve been involved with BBC Writersroom before and always sent my ideas to them. Normally those were screenplays, but this idea was just a sketch and it developed from there.

“I came up with it when I was out on a walk and was thinking about how the Vikings used to walk there too.”

Paul, 37, is a dad to Jake, 12, and Elliot, nine, who attend Whitworth High and St Anselms, and Adaline, one. He also has another baby on the way with wife, Victoria, 32, due in December.

The educational book follows the tale of Norman Neep, who, when he arrives in England, is scared of the sheep.

It was also illustrated by Paul, who has been drawing since he was in school, and has previously done freelance drawing.

Paul added: “It’s a simple rhyming book. It explains who the main character is, what he’s like - he’s a bit of an arrogant Viking in the beginning, very full of himself in front of others, but when he gets to England and sees the sheep he runs away.

“My kids really love it. There’s also a facts page at the back with facts about the Vikings.”

Paul is also working on his next book about a Scottish clan rite of passage tradition of lifting up a massive stone.
