ATRIO were the toast of their running group after successfully taking part in this year’s Virtual London Marathon event.

Nick Barlow and Sean Towers, from Rawtenstall, and Ed Randviir, from Crawshawbooth, were among runners up and down the country who pounded their local streets last weekend, with the annual race in the capital not open this year to non-elite competitors.

And the threesome, who are members of the Casked Runners group affiliated to the popular Rawtenstall micropub - said they shared a well deserved and socially-distanced beer at the end of their 26.2-mile runs.

Sean who is chairman of the group, said they completed the distance in four hours and 47 minutes after plotting a route which began (appropriately) near another pub - the Waggoners between Clowbridge and Burnley.

From there they ran to Whitworth through Rawtenstall and Bacup, and back again via four laps of Cowm reservoir.

Speaking on Tuesday, Sean, 32, said they were had been spurred on by plenty of support out on the route, but admitted they had all been “struggling” the following day!

He said: “We had quite a few people knowing that we were running throughout the Valley so they cheered us on. There was also a lot of people who we didn’t know, which was nice. A couple of other runners joined us for various sections.”

He added that this week was a last chance for Ed to put his feet up as his wife Helen is expecting to give birth in the next week or so!

Casked Runners are fundraising this year for Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue team - and sponsorship donations can be made directly to them. Casked Runners generally have 20 to 30 people running each Wednesday, with different standard groups attempting a variety of distances.
