Village centre a hub of activity supporting the community

THIS week we are looking at the Crawshawbooth Village Centre which was officially opened in 1990, and coincided with the opening of the first Out of School Club at the centre.
The centre was extended in 2010 when the library was refurbished, and the whole complex was taken over by the Crawshawbooth Community Association in 2017. The centre is open to all, and they cater for everyone from small babies and toddlers to older people who come to their lunch club, enjoy keep fit and other activities.
The library is now open again thanks to the centre’s brilliant volunteers.
The centre also runs one of the Rossendale food boxes from the library and have for many years provided emergency food parcels for people.
This has continued and has massively increased as more and more people are struggling partly due to Covid.
Under normal circumstances the centre has a Christmas Dinner at the centre, but this is being delivered to people at home and will include a Christmas present. This has also been expanded to include others living alone.
The Kids in Rossendale Charity has a base in the building and they have joined forces so that families in need of food support will also receive Christmas presents.
The centre also has a Pre School and Out of School and would love to get back to offering their Holiday Club but current circumstances do not allow. They also plan to restart the Jo Jingles music group when restrictions allow.
The Crawshawbooth Community Association is a registered charity and aims to be self-sufficient and support their community as much as possible in the future.
