Fawns so keen to fire Rams up

- DOMINIC POTTS

RA M S B O T TOM United’s Mason Fawns is itching to get back playing football again after an impressive start to the season for both himself and his team before the season was temporarily halted.

Halloween was the last competitive outing for the Rams who sit top of the NPL North West Division with Fawns starting all eight games so far contributing two goals in the process and the attackingmidfielder accepts the stoppage was disappointing but is confident the team can pick up where they left off.

“There’s nothing worse when you’re hitting a bit of form and the team as well was getting some good results and then it stops and you have to reset and keep fit,” Fawns admitted.

“It’s hard when you hit a bit of form and then you get pushed back but hopefully, we can come back, and I can carry on what I’ve been doing at the start of the season.

“All the lads have been keeping fit and the managers have kept on top of us with our running so hopefully we go back raring to go and we can kick on where we left off.”

This is only Fawns’ second season with the Rams, and he has admitted that his first was a learning curve and is feeling a lot more confident this campaign and is glad he made the decision to join the club.

“The first season hit me home a bit because I wasn’t used to that league as I’d played in League One and the Conference North so coming to this league was a bit of a wakeup call,” he said.

“You don’t have that much time on the ball, you can’t really do as much in tight areas and last season I was struggling but this season I know what I’m expecting.

which has helped massively because I’m making runs into the box which last season, I wouldn’t have done so I’m really enjoying it and it’s a really good club.

“Everyone gets along, and we’ve got a great manager so hopefully we can continue to push on.”

The 21-year-old has previously played fulltime making four appearances in League One for Oldham Athletic during the 2017-18 season but sadly was released at the end of that season.

Despite this, Fawns still has ambitions of playing professionally in the future but is currently focused on enjoying his football and helping Ramsbottom finish as high as possible.

“You still dream of being of being full time which is everyone’s main aim,” admitted the former Oldham man.

“I just want to enjoy my football and I’ve realised over the years that the main thing is to enjoy it because if you enjoy it you play your best football.

“At the moment I am enjoying it and hopefully that’s showing out on the pitch and everyone dreams of being a full- time footballer so hopefully I can get back there but in the meantime my goal is to get Ramsbottom promoted!”
