MR Vincent Taylor, of Nelson Street, Britannia, Bacup, died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Wednesday, January 6 - his birthday - aged 83.

A service will be held at the Chapel of Rest on Tuesday, January 19 at 12.10pm, followed by cremation at Burnley at 1pm, conducted by Mr Peter Goulding.

Born in Bacup, he lived most of his life in Bacup and Britannia.

He began work at Ross Mill, leaving to do two years’ National Service.

He worked in the quarries and as a bus driver, and latterly as a lorry driver.

He then became the landlord of the Wellington Hotel, known as the ‘Welly’ in Britannia, and was there for 19 years.

Vincent enjoyed fishing, sea fishing, and holidays abroad. He was a former member of Bacup Cricket Club and liked watching sport. Husband of the late Eileen, he leaves daughters Lorraine and her husband Peter, Joanne and her partner Mark, grandchild­ren Simon, Anthony and Hannah, five great-grandchild­ren, his partner Rita, sisters Jean and Lily, brothers

Raymond and Fred, sisters-in-law, brothers-inlaw, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

TOM, or Tommy, of Union Street, Rawtenstal­l, died on Tuesday, December 29, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 84.

He had a varied working life, which included a number of textile mills and footwear factories, being a delivery driver for Sevilles’ bakery, and a driving instructor. For a number of years, until his retirement, he worked at Medex in Haslingden.

Tom entered enthusiast­ically into a wide variety of pastimes and pursuits. As a young man in National Service he boxed at middleweig­ht for the Army. He later developed a taste for hunting rabbits with shotgun, or ferrets, but didn’t discover a true obsession until hooked by fishing in his middle years.

A spell as a Britannia Coconut Dancer around this time gave way to ballroom dancing, and eventually crown green bowling, both of which

Tom enjoyed long into retirement.

Beloved husband of Olwen, father to Mark and the late Trevor and Christophe­r, treasured grandad of Becky, Benjamin, Richard, Katherine and Robert, and great-grandad to Hannah and Eve.

A funeral service will be held for invited family at Burnley Crematoriu­m on Wednesday, January 20, at 1pm. There will be family flowers only. In lieu of attendance or flowers, donations are invited in his memory to Rossendale Hospice; these can be sent via Fred Hamer Funeral Services (Rawtenstal­l). There will be a live internet broadcast of the service, the details of which are available in advance from the funeral home.
