Mountain rescue team helps to find lost cyclist in the hills
ROSSENDALE mountain rescuers had to be mobilised after a biker become lost on the hills.
Officers from Lancashire Constabulary sought help from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Service (MRT) on Sunday evening, January 17, after a biker became lost after biking in the quarry at Hameldon Hill.
MRT personnel attended the scene after getting the call at 6.15pm.
Arriving above the Hapton Inn, team members deployed an RV to make their way by foot to the lost person.
Mountain rescue personnel found the man and brought him to safety without injury despite the challenges provided by the darkness.
At about 7.30pm on Sunday, a Rossendale Police spokesperson said: “If you’re wondering what all the lights are on the moors between Loveclough and Hapton, we are currently with Rossendale Mountain Rescue having taken a report of a mountain biker who had become lost on the moors.
“The good news is that Mountain Rescue have just located him safe and well. Top work from a great team.”
A Rossendale and Pendle MRT spokesperson said: “This evening at around
6.15pm the team were contacted by Lancashire Police with the 14th call out of the year so far.
“The request was to assist with a person who was lost whilst biking in the quarry above Hapton, on Hameldon Hill.
“Team members, along with the Hilux and ATV Buggy were deployed to an RV above the Hapton
Inn, with a small party deployed and making their way towards the casualty on-foot.
“However, the buggy once again proved its worth to the team and got onto the top, making contact with, and ultimately bringing the casualty (and their mountain bike) down to safety. The casualty was unharmed from the incident (other than maybe their pride!) and once down, they were happy to make their own way home on their bike as originally planned.”
Officers commended the actions of the mountain rescue personnel.
Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation.
