League’s survey is flawed says Peters

- STEVE BROWN

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters believes canvassing opinion as to how to conclude the football season is a flawed system.

With clubs from steps 3-6 unlikely to play before March at the earliest it’s starting to become increasingly worrying whether the North West Counties season will finish at all.

This week all clubs received a survey to be completed with regards to how they would like to see the season conclude with several options up for discussion.

The options being tabled are a possible null and void, the potential for a points per game situation and a full conclusion, but under the current rules the league would have to make sure that all fixtures are finalised by the 31st May.

Taking to social media quite a few clubs were disappointed that another survey was being introduced bearing in mind one was completed prior to the start of the football season. And the further we drift into 2021 more likely the season will yet again fall foul to a potential null and void.

And Peters reckons the answers clubs gave at the start of the campaign could vary now, depending on the kind of start to the season they’ve had.

“I am disappointed that we are being asked to do this again,” he said.

“All clubs filled out a survey prior to the start of the 2020/21 campaign stating their proposals for how they would like to see the season unfold.

“I have no problem doing this again but clubs’ decisions now will be different to several months ago.

“Their decisions will be based on the clubs current circumstances. ie whether or not they’ve got off to a good or bad start, so the reasons will be different.”

Peters doesn’t know what is going to happen next, and like all clubs at this levels the decisions will ultimately lie with the Football Association.

“Nobody knows what’s going to happen,” he said.

“It’s become a bit of a shambles from the beginning. All I want to see now is leadership from the powers that be.

“The FA need to take control and make the big decisions.

“Hopefully through the delivery of this latest survey they’ll quickly do that and give the clubs some clarity.”
