CCTV may be part of new crackdown on waste dumpers

-

WASTE chiefs are considering introducing CCTV in a bid to crack down on some of the worst grot spots in Haslingden.

One fed up resident recently reported the latest outbreaks on the town’s Princess Street and Greenfield Street.

The former saw bin liners and a discarded mattress scattered along an alleyway, while the latter incident included at least 15 rubbish sacks and larger trash items piled up against a wall.

He said he had become “totally frustrated and angry” at the “neverending mess”.

The resident, who wished not to be named, said: “During these forlorn times on my rare ventures out I have become totally frustrated and angry at the state of our streets.

“Litter doesn’t cover it, we seem to accept dumping waste as normal. I regularly contact the council to make them aware. They come and clear it - only for more to be dumped.

“My issue is apart from the neverending mess, is no follow up action. On numerous occasions clearly addressed rubbish is dumped as more people get things delivered.”

Rossendale council confirmed they were informed about the rubbish outbreaks on Friday, January 22 and have arranged for it to be removed “as soon as possible”.

A spokesperson added: “Our Environmental Enforcement officers are making further investigations and gathering evidence to enable enforcement action against the perpetrators to be taken - and we are looking at potentially targeting the area with CCTV to stop further misuse.”
