Police probe attack on taxi driver
OFFICERS are investigating after a taxi driver was attacked after picking up passengers from Rawtenstall.
Lancashire Constabulary were called to Towneley Park in Burnley at around 10pm on Wednesday, January 27 after a taxi driver was hit over the head and robbed.
The driver later told police that he was told to drop off two customers before being set upon.
Detective Sergeant Kath Cussans said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim who is fortunate he was not more seriously injured.”
The taxi driver had been called to JA Taylor’s Ford Garage on Bury Road in Rawtenstall to pick up a man and a woman.
He then drove the couple to Towneley Park, but when he stopped to let them out he was attacked by two other men.
The victim was hit over the head but fortunately did not suffer serious injury, although his phone and cash were stolen from the car.
No arrests have been made at this stage but enquiries are ongoing and the police are appealing for witnesses.
Officers have also released details of the two taxi passengers.
The woman, who was wearing dark clothing, is described as being in her early 20s, white and having skinny build with black hair.
The man who got in the taxi with her is described as white, around 20-23 years of age, having a slim build and short dark hair.
He was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms with a dark hooded jacket.
The two men in the park were both described as white, around 40 and slim build. Again wearing dark clothing.
