‘Overwhelmed’ as offers of help flood in
SUMMERSEAT Village Community said they had been “overwhelmed by offers of support”, and said offers of gardening, cleaning and counselling would all make a big difference to the community.
In a post on their Facebook page, they said: “People have been asking us what are the immediate needs of those affected by this week’s tragedy are. Some are small things, but still impact on lives and finances during already difficult times.”
Bury council said their staff attended the scene of the explosion and dealt with the evacuation of 28 households.
A spokesman said: “The local community and the council worked to ensure that support, shelter and hot drinks were provided for those who had to leave their properties with immediate effect.
“Our building control team have been on site advising residents and our security team carried out patrols when the site was fenced off.”
Bury North MP James Daly said: “This is deeply sad news and my thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and neighbours at this extremely difficult time.
“It has been an incredibly traumatic event for everyone in the area.” In a later Facebook post, he said: “The community has really shown amazing spirit with donations and even offers of houses for those affected.”

Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The site is now secure and the local authority continues to assist any residents who require help and support. The coronial process is now under way so it would not be appropriate to disclose more information concerning this incident at this time.”
