Church group helps shine light of hope for the needy

-

THIS week we are looking at the work of The Shine On Project, which is a voluntary group based at Kay Street Baptist Church in Rawtenstall, and is a collective response to a community in need.

Times are hard for many in our community at the moment for many different reasons. The Shine On Project is coordinated by Lara Hewitt, who understands that it is more important than ever to show people in a very real way that they are valued, appreciated and loved.

The project cooks a variety of fresh, delicious food on a weekly basis which is frozen and available to be collected or delivered on a Saturday to individuals and families who are struggling and need a little extra support.

They have taken up a number of challenges since they were formed, and with the help and support of local businesses and other voluntary groups they made a massive difference to those in our community who need extra help.

Despite the limitations of the pandemic, in

December the project provided Christmas meals and gifts for over 300 people and sent pancakes and pancake mix out to people ready for Shrove Tuesday, as well as beautiful flowers as they are aware that everyone should feel loved and not just on Valentine’s Day.

The project has been recognised by the Mayor of Rossendale and received a grant from the ASDA Foundation to support their efforts. As with all voluntary groups, they rely on donations.

For further information, check out their website at www.shineproject.uk, or donate on their fundraising page.

You can also contact the project at projectshine@ yahoo.com or telephone 07516 241885. For further information about other support available in the Valley, please email rosscsn43@gmail.com.
