POLICE have appealed for information after a man in his 90s was rushed to hospital with injuries after a ‘nasty’ crash involving a van.

Emergency services including police and paramedics were called to a car park off Newchurch Road in Rawtenstall, between Back Lane and Bank Street on Saturday, March 27.

Police said they received reports of a collision between a van and a man in his 90s, taking place at around 12.45pm.

As emergency services arrived on scene, they found an injured elderly man.

The man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with injuries which were initially believed to be life-threatening. He is now thought to have a broken hip and remains in hospital undergoing treatment.

No arrests have been made, confirmed Lancashire Constabulary.

Sgt Andrew Hemingway, of the Lancashire Police TacOps team, said: “This was a nasty collision which has left an elderly man seriously injured.

“We are working hard to establish exactly what occurred and are asking anybody who saw it, and has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.

“There are a number of people we believe may have seen it happen, but who left the scene before officers could get their details.

“If this was you, please contact us straight away.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “We attended to reports of an RTC on Newchurch Road following a 999 call. We have taken a man in his 90s to hospital with a hip injury.”

Anybody with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting 639 of March 27.
