Rules are relaxed at Valley tips
TIP users have been given a boost with a rule relaxation – although residents are still being urged to only make a trip if essential.
Households are no longer restricted to one type of waste when they visit Haslingden HWRC, or other local centres across Lancashire.
The change from normal procedures was introduced last year as a means to ensure social distancing and reduce the spread of Coronavirus by preventing residents mixing with each other during their trip.
A decision has now been made to relax the rule in line with the government’s roadmap.
It comes just in time for the Easter period, when demand is expected to be high.
Meanwhile, roads bosses say they are “working to secure the necessary permissions” to carry out repairs to the access road to the Duckworth Clough site, amid “complex ownership issues”.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “The condition of the access road to Haslingden HWRC can deteriorate quickly following a period of cold and wet weather due to water from the surrounding land draining onto the road.
“We carry out regular repairs but complex ownership issues place limitations on the extent of repairs we are legally able to carry out.
“We are aware more substantial repairs to the road are needed, and are working to secure the necessary permissions.”
A spokesperson for Ground Rents Income Fund told the Free Press: “We were recently made aware by a resident of concerns relating to the access road to Haslingden HWRC and are currently seeking clarification as to the level, if any, of our responsibility for the road’s maintenance.
“Following this, we will be well placed to engage around the next steps required to help resolve this matter.”
