Rams starting up football academy

Club set to offer Level 2 and 3 courses from September for students looking to work in the football industry

-

RAMS BOTTOM United will be launching anew academy in September aimed towards secondary school leavers who are looking to work within football.

Warren Hemmingway, head of the academy, believes the success of the different age groups in the club’s youth set up meant it was inevitable it would grow into an academy.

“The way we looked at it was we’ve got an exciting and established junior section and the senior section was riding high,” said Hemmingway.

“We had an under 18s and an under 21s which was doing very well so, it really was a natural follow on from that really.

“It will get more local lads playing in the local community and to give them an education as well.”

Applicants will be given the opportunity to study a Level 2 or 3 sports, development, coaching and fitness course as well as continuing their football skills development.

There will be a set schedule to ensure students get the best out of their experience at the club through using the great facilities and learning environments that will be provided, including playing on the first team pitch to feel what the future could look like for them.

On the schedule Hemm ingway explained: “The lads will come into our junior side which is at Top Park just outside Ramsbottom Village on a Monday and Tuesday.

“We’ll do lessons AM and PM depending on whether they take the Level 2 or Level 3 which we can discuss with them once they get their grades.

“Every afternoon we’ll do training, coach the youngsters and get ready for the games which will take place on a Wednesday afternoon either in the Local College League and the FA Youth Cup.

“All the games will be at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.

“We’ve got very good under 18s, under 21s and development teams who all play across the Bolton and Bury development leagues.

“With all those players under one roof we should be able to get a really good squad and push us forward.

“That is underpinned by the Ramsbottom Junior section, obviously they can come from other teams as well and put altogether, moving forward we should give a good account of ourselves as we move forward in the FA Youth Cup and College league as well.”

The next Academy Induction Day is on the 10/04/2021 and there is still time to sign up. See ramsbottomunited.co.uk for details.
