Haslingden pick up first win of season

HASLINGDEN won for the first time this season, beating Accrington by 52 runs at the CDM Windows Bentgate Cricket Ground.

Toby Bulcock picked up a league best 7-35 for Accrington with Lewis McIntosh (56) and sub profession­al Samit Patel (52) both hitting half centuries in Haslingden’s 216-8.

Accrington sub profession­al Jack Edgar trapped Graham Knowles for 17 with the score on 33.

Bulcock then removed opener Matt Griffin for 41 at 113 and Connor Reed (4) at 126.

Patel became Bulcock’s third victim at 130 after hitting three fours in a 66 ball innings. Alex Coleman (17) was next to after adding 47 for the 5th wicket with McIntosh, caught by Stuart Crabtree off Bulcock.

Seven runs later Sean Hunsley (3) was clean bowled by Bulcock.

A 7th wicket stand of 31 was broken when McIntosh was also bowled by Bulcock for 56, including four sixes and three fours.

Jo Sipocz (1) fell to the final ball of the innings when he too was bowled by the slow left armer.

Sipocz then snapped up Matt Wilson without scoring at 11.

Left handers Crabtree and Edgar put on 68 for the 2nd wicket before the paid man fell to his opposite number for 30.

Tom Walker (4) was trapped in front by Patel at 106 and eight runs later Bulcock (5) was trapped in front by McIntosh.

Crabtree was next to go at 118 when he was caught by Coleman off Patel for 58, including eight fours. McIntosh then had Jon Hayhurst caught behind without scoring at 122. Riley Armstrong (14) joined Andy Greenwood to add 26 before he fell to Patel. Matt Taylor (0) survived 2 balls before becoming Patel’s 5th victim.

Skipper Graeme Sneddon (8) became victim number six for Patel (6-33) leaving Greenwood (20 not out) and Jimmy Hayhurst (2 not out) unbeaten when the overs ran out.

Greenmount notched their first home win to maintain their winning start to life in the Lancashire League with a 3 wicket victory over Bacup. Greenmount skipper Ryan Senior took 4-18 and profession­al Chesney Hughes 3-24 with Matt O’Connor top scoring with 36 in Bacup’s 163 all out. Skipper Simon Newbitt and Scott Thompson also hit 29 apiece.

Tom Heaton hit an unbeaten 84 from 94 balls with 14 fours to take the home side to victory after 35 overs. Fin Testa (4-54) had put Bacup in the driving seat with the early wickets of Andy Kerr (0), Hughes (4) and Evan Williams (4) but Heaton played a superb knock, adding an unbroken 47 for the 8th wicket with Lewis Dove (22) to secure maximum points.

Simon O’Loughlin took 6-21, including his 300th Lancashire League wicket, to help bowl Enfield to a 93 run win over Rawtenstal­l at Dill Hall Lane. Enfield recovered from 92-5 to post 223-7. Tiarnan Hamill hit 59 from 53 balls, including nine fours and a six, adding 78 for the 7th wicket with Scott Wilkinson (35 not out).

Yasir Ali (35), Lewis Wright (27) and profession­al Stuart Els (25) also chipped in. Profession­al Saliya Saman took 3-46 and Imran Abid 3-53. Saman hit 63 from 71 balls with five sixes and five fours but Matt Kershaw (16) was the only other batsman in double figures for Rawtenstal­l who were bowled out for 130.

Great Harwood won the local derby at the Evolve Document Solutions Cliffe against Rishton by 83 runs. The home side made 187 all out. Sub profession­al Umega Chaturanga took 4-30 for Rishton with his opposite number Thikshila de Silva hitting 44, Caleb Greenhalgh 25 and Reece Willetts 58 from 73 balls, including eight fours. Kasir Masood took a career best 5-36 and de Silva picked up 3-35 to bowl Rishton out for 107. Josh Whitehead top scored with 30 for the visitors.

All amateur side East Lancs notched an early win at Alexandra Meadows, beating Nelson by 4 wickets in a Division 2 match that finished at 16.49. Joe Bolton took 3-16 to help bowl the visitors out for 91 and he then hit an unbeaten 30 from the top of the order. Khurrum Nazir made 19, Nick Burton 15 and skipper Lewis Bradley 14 with Ben Finch (2-19), Josh Bristol (2-13) and Phill Aspinall (2-40) all picking up a couple of wickets apiece for East Lancs.

Chris Brooker-Carey took 3-15 and profession­al Usman Tariq 2-27 to make life difficult for East Lancs but Aspinall (29 not out) and Bolton put on an unbroken 52 for the 7th wicket to see the home side to victory.

Littleboro­ugh also maintained their winning start with a 7 wicket win at Church. Craig Fergusson who was promoted to the top of the order top scored with 39 from 97 balls in Church’s 151-9. Phill Gilrane also made 19 and profession­al Sagar Trivedi 18. Clinton Perren picked up 3-20 for Littleboro­ugh. Perren then top scored with 49, Matt Hernon hit an unbeaten 32 and Zac Perren made 28 for the visitors who won with 13 overs to spare.

Walsden had a 199 run win over Colne at Scott Street in Division 1. Half centuries from Josh Gale (83 from 96 balls) and Jake Hooson (55 from 97 balls) who added 142 for the 1st wicket, and profession­al Umesh Karunaratn­e who hit 76 helped Walsden hit 309-6 the highest score of the season to date.

Cameron Hanson also hit 42 from 39 balls and Elliott Gilford 22 with Chris Walton taking 3-90 for Colne. Jamie Shackleton then took 4-29, Joe Gale 3-20 and Umesh 2-16 to bowl Colne out for 110. Walton hit 21, David Spokes 20 and Sam Tillotson an unbeaten 19 for the visitors.

Ramsbottom beat Crompton by 91 runs at Acre Bottom to secure maximum points for the second match running. Profession­al Daryn Smit hit an unbeaten 83 from 73 balls, including nine fours and a six in Ramsbottom’s 262-4. Simon Hanson (41) and Harry Caton (38) put on 68 for the 1st wicket, Kieren Grimshaw hit 32, Jacob Clarke an unbeaten 26 and Brad Fielding 25. Josh Dentith (3-41) and Smit (3-49) picked up 3 wickets apiece to help dismiss Crompton for 171. Mohammad Jamal hit 57 from 89 balls and Josh Parker 47 for the visitors.

Norden won their local derby against Rochdale by 7 wickets. James MauriceSco­tt hit his first Lancashire League century in Rochdale’s 208-8.

The opener hit eleven fours and five sixes in making 101 from 135 balls in just under three hours. He added 61 with Andy Dawson (30), 37 with sub profession­al Chirag Khuruna (18), 46 with Zimmy Khan (13), 30 with Ali Muzaffer (14) and 17 with Jack Duffy (10).

Greg Butterwort­h took 5-35 for Norden. Aaron Brown (2-26) struck early to reduce Norden to 24-2 by sending back Josh Tolley (8) and Steve Pimm (1) but Harvey Fitton and profession­al Ashar Zaidi put on 129 for the 3rd wicket to put the home side in charge.

Zaidi hit eight fours and a six in making 62 before falling to Casey Roche. Lee Crabtree then hit an unbeaten 37 from 29 balls in an unbroken 4th wicket stand of 56 with Fitton who made an unbeaten 78 from 131 balls with six fours and four sixes.

Darwen sub profession­al Neil Hornbuckle took 4-32 after top scoring with 32 to help his side beat Todmorden, the team he stood in for on the opening day, by 20 runs at The Ainsworth Lord Estates Ground.

Sub profession­al Harpreet Singh took 5-31 to help bowl Darwen out for 137. Skipper Scott Friend also hit 27, Scott Jackson 23 and Dave Bowden 22 in Darwen’s innings. Noah Priestley made 22 and Singh, Andrew Sutcliffe and Luke Kavanagh all made 21 apiece in Todmorden’s 117 all out. Kamran Anwar also took 3-34 for Darwen who took maximum points for the second match running.

Champions Burnley went down to a 6 wicket defeat by Clitheroe at The boohoo.com Turf Moor. Profession­al Mansoor Amjad (3-8), Jack Dewhurst (3-28) and Sam Halstead (3-44) all picked up 3 wickets apiece to bowl Burnley out for 117. Chris Holt made 34 and profession­al Ockert Erasmus hit 27 for the home side. Ali Ross anchored

Clitheroe’s reply with 50 from 128 balls, adding 33 for the 2nd wicket with Jack Dewhurst (23) and 42 for the 4th wicket with Sam Mulligan (23 not out).

The last match to finish was at Towncroft where Middleton surprised Lowerhouse with a 3 wicket win in a high scoring thriller. Middleton profession­al James Price hit a superb 113 from 110 balls with eleven fours and two sixes to help his side to victory with four balls to spare.

Walker before a run had been scored, Keelan Shipley (19) and Rehan Udwadia put on 35. Jonny Whitehead ran out Shipley to bring Price to the crease.

Francois Haasbroek (2-62) removed Udwadia for 39 at 103. Profession­al Stephen Parry (2-62) held a return catch off Grant Jones (17) at 151 and then trapped Leighton Le Carpentier in front without scoring 12 runs later.

Rhys Tierney joined Price to add 51 for the 6th wicket before Price fell to Paddy Martin. Haasbroek had Tom Rutter caught by Charlie Cottam at 246 but Tierney held his nerve to lead his side to a famous win with an unbeaten 34. Skipper Ben Heap top scored with 95 in Lowerhouse’s 250-9. Heap hit ten fours from 128 balls, adding 110 for the 1st wicket with Whitehead (35).

Cottam also hit 26, Hawke an unbeaten 19 and Haasbroek 19 with profession­al Price taking 4-67 and Richard Fitton 3-26 for Middleton.
