Cyclist fighting for his life after crash
A CYCLIST suffered a serious head injury after a horrific crash early on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Newchurch Road in Bacup following reports of a collision near to Futures Park.
The crash caused long delays between Bacup and Waterfoot as the A681 was closed, while bus services in the area were also diverted.
Lancashire Police said the collision involved a car and a male cyclist, who was taken to hospital with a ‘serious head injury’, and they are appealing for witnesses.
In a statement a spokesperson said: “The incident occurred at around 5.45am today ( June 2) at the junction of Newchurch Road and New Line, when a Ford Ranger pick-up vehicle and a bike collided.
“The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators attended, but it has since reopened.”
Sgt Michael Higginson said: “This was a nasty collision which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital. We are determined to establish exactly what occurred and would ask anybody with information to get in touch.
“Perhaps you saw the collision, or saw either of the vehicles in the moments before the collision, and have not yet been spoken to by police, or maybe you have CCTV or dashcam footage of the collision.”
Anybody with information is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log 189 of June 2.
