ACELEBRITY football match this summer will raise money for charities working to support mental health.

The fixture, at St Mary’s FC in Haslingden, will see ticket revenues split between Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and the Samaritans.

The KICK FOR A CAUSE event will also support local organisation Jack’s Club , set up in the town in 2019 after 20- year- old Jack Milburn tragically took his own life.

An auction and raffle will be held on the day, with all proceeds being donated to the support group, which enables young people to relax, meet new people and talk about anything that’s bothering them in a non-judgemental environment.

The July 25 event has been put together by men’s mental health community interest company blOKes in conjunction with the Erasing The Bar podcast, founded by Rawtenstall’s Connor Thompson.

The two sides will feature well-known names, including former professional rugby players Johnny Leota, Matt Jess and Tom Lindsay, as well as Danny Andrews – better known as the ‘ Fish & Rice Cake Guy’.

Connor said: “Throughout the pandemic, people’s mental health has suffered no end and charities like CALM and Samaritans have both carried out truly amazing work to support those most in need.”

As a small token of appreciation for their invaluable work throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, 300 tickets will be donated to local NHS key workers in the Valley and surrounding area.

Tom Home, founder of blOKes, said: “We aim to provide men with a safe, supportive and nonjudgemental platform to open up about their thoughts and feelings, connect with likeminded people and tell a # MaleTale, so naturally the work of CALM and Samaritans is something we want to support in whatever way possible.”
