Plans to turn bank into flats

-

A PLANNING application has been submitted to convert a bank into residential apartments.

The former TSB bank, located on Deardengate, Haslingden, closed in January and now plans have been submitted to Rossendale council to convert it into six one-bedroom apartments.

The bank was closed as part of TSB’s decision to close 164 of its branches nationwide, leaving the property vacant.

Planning permission is being sought by Manchester-based HS Property Group, who say they are committed to providing affordable and social housing.

As the second floor of the property was already in use as a residential flat the main works to convert the bank will be carried out on the ground and first floor.

The six new apartments are planned to be one-bedroom, one-person with three traditional apartments and three duplex apartments.

According to the application’s design and access statement they will all have ‘en-suite/ bathrooms and good sized living spaces’.

As the site is on a high-street location there is no on-site parking and the application does not propose any parking being created.

Deardengate is at the heart of Haslingden conservation area and although the building itself is not subject to any listing or heritage designation, it is considered the building and any changes made make a significant contribution to the conservation area.

The design and access statement says: “The proposal has minimal impact on the original character of the existing building with also no impact on the surrounding listed heritage assets or street scene. The alterations are very minor and entirely in keeping with the area in terms of visual character.”
