Sailing club aims for the top

THE Valley sailing club is planning to host its first ever Northern Travellers Series racing event, with the hope of attracting more members.

Rossendale Valley Sailing Club will be hosting the Northern Travellers Series Event which is run by the Internatio­nal Topper Class Associatio­n at Clowbridge Reservoir, on June 12.

Currently there are 28 topper boats registered to compete (the topper is a single handed sailing dinghy) with more hopefully set to announce their participat­ion.

The club, which has provided a natural home for water sports enthusiast­s across Rossendale, Lancashire since 1965, offer sail training and taster sessions for new members, young and old, and say this event is a great occasion to get a taste of what goes on at the club.

The timetable for the day is as follows: Boats will begin arriving at the Club from 9am, race briefing will take place at 10.20am, the first race will start at arround 110am with a second race immediatel­y after. Each race will take 35-40 minutes.

Lunch and refreshmen­ts will be provided at 12.30pm. After lunch, another two races back-to-back. Prizes will be handed out before the event finishes at 5pm. A spokespers­on for the club said: “It will be a joyous occasion for all those that have worked tirelessly with the club, and we hope you can join us to watch the exciting action on the water.”
