●● A PROUD grandfathe­r is grateful to the Valley community for supporting a nine-yearold girl’s epic charity trek. Hannah Miah has completed a 40km charity walk to raise £14,535 for street children in Bangladesh (June 6):

●● A HAIRDRESSE­R who was labelled ‘the finest barber in town’ has spoken of his fond memories and sadness after being forced to retire. Jim Hartley, who will be 80 later this month, has hung up his trimming scissors for good after closing his Waterfoot shop last March at the onset of pandemic restrictio­ns ( June 5):

John Cooper: Jim is my wife Gail’s uncle. He knew when we were in our a*** s and wouldn’t take any payment for a haircut. As soon as we were back on our feet he took the money and no words were exchanged, he just knew. A true gent with a heart of gold. Good look in retirement Jim.
